Got in late guys...
Parcells:
I would take two years of crap like I have taken to get the feeling I had last night. We were all happy last night. It feels really good.
I told you guys I was ashamed about the product we put on the field last week.
You gotta do what you thinks right and sometimes you steer the ship and it doesn't go straight.
At half going in last night i knew my team was fighting hard. We could have had a couple of things go differently. I did think we would give them a run for their money in the second half. I told them we could beat this team and they sucked it up and did.
We have another road trip coming up and it won't be easy.
I'm not saying this win was better than any other. You get to a point that opportunity doesn't always come knocking. I have a good feel for this NFC now. I don't know what's going to happen. Chicago seems to be in control of theie division, but outside of that I think it's anyone's division to win.
The simple hting is that the game tells you what you are. Period. I told the TV guys that the other night. I've gotten to the point where I disregard everything but the game. I disregard friends, booth guys, critics, family. The game tells you what you are. Nothing has any bearing on your team, no matter what people tell you. It's the game. Once you get that down you can move along and not get distracted much.
I think we do have some fight in us. I have always believed that. When we play with alot of disciplin on O and D, we can compete with any team in this league. When we don't we are an average to below average team. Sean called me this morning talking abou tt here 5 turnovers yesterday. You can't win when you do that.
Tony is like any young kid. He knows what this process has been better than anyone. He knows he's been waiting in the wings and that this opportunity may not happen again. I think he is mature and smart enough to realize that. My job as a coach is to help him any way I can to have him not fall into the pitfalls that go along with this game. We just want to keep him calm. I told him that the int he threw last night would sit him down quicker than anything, that's all I said to him.
I was more involved in the srategy last night, not in the play calling, but the overall strategy.
We practiced Marcus more last week. Keith had the ankle and we didn't know he would be good to go the way we wanted him to go. I really didn't know what role we wanted him in. We gave M. Coleman most of the reps, but we decided late in the week to start Keith and put Marcus in the nickel. I didn't want Keith off of special teams because he is one of our best plyaers so I didn't want him in there the whole game.
I talked to the team about trying to rally around Romo. It was early in the week mostly, but I think the players were doing everything they could to help him out. SOme of the players did a really good job at that.
I told the guys last night that I told them they showed alot of guts last night. Down 14 at half and to come back, especially after they way they looked last week. They got stronger as the game went on and we got a couple of breaks. Carolina missed some opportunities.
I had seen some of what I felt was fight from this team at times. I think it was a more concerted effort on their part last night. They knew it would be a tough game and they know this week will be a tough game.
I think one of Tony's assets is that when he is moving he can throw the ball pretty accurately. When he first cam up his GF wasn't winning many Teddy Bears at the carnival games.
I thought Columbo did a good job. He is tough and will fight it out.
People that emailed and called me asked what was wrong with me, why wasn't I myself. THat is a personal thing. I'm in there this morning and some player I had sent me a nice long email concerned about me. It's nice and gratifying. When Jimmy showed up this morning it was very nice. It's one of the gratifying things you have in this business.
I'm ususally one of those guys that if I don't have anything good to say I don't say it. People can misinterpret that. You don't want to inflame the situation when it is at it's hottest. I am getting better about that, I really am.
Romo's ability is innate when moving in the pocket. He avoids rushes but sometimes makes mistakes, it's not always an asset to be mobile.
Key makes mistakes at times. He's a good player and I have a lot of respect for him. He deserves that respect. He has spilled a lot of blood for me.
I don't remember all of that excitement, but I am not ashamed of that. I've done plenty I am not proud of, but showing emotion is not one of them. TO my real friends I have gotten more sentimental as I've gotten older.
I think a lot of us in this business realize this can be a very tedious endeavor. On the plane last night I talked to Tony Larussa for about 15 minutes. When you talk to guys like him or Bobby Knight, you perk up and listen to what they have to say. Those are the ones I usually rely on.
Werder comes on the bus last night and is just as excited as I am. He likes what he saw. Nothing wrong with that, he is a football fan.
Let's not move Romo to Ohio just yet. Having a fiery coach and a good young QB is a good thing.
I'm happy for the players, I really am. We had a good win on the road, but we have our lunch bucket full here. We'll see how it goes. Anyone can land the lucky punch.
I don't know yet. I don't know if it was a lucky punch last night (Romo) or if the ball hit the bat.
When Steve Smith is on the field you better be paying attention. The same is true with Santana Moss and ARE. If you don't pay attention they will hurt you. We can't breathe easily at any time.Sorry... the feed dropped...
