View Full Version : Eddie George
I know its a little late in the Pre-season. But I was thinking that maybe EG should have made a transition to FB. Not sure if he has much experience as a blocking FB, like Martin...But if he could, we could have...
1) EG - FB and RB
2) Anderson - FB and RB
3) JJ
4) Lee
That would give us a lot of versatility and save a roster spot. What do you guys think ?

Eddie George has never had to run block a day in his life. He would be a liability. He would proably disagree to it anyway.
It was no secret that Eddie was this slow and washed up. It was widely known. Jerry and some of the fans wanted slow and washed up because we were too scared to go with a young player, and now we're stuck with it for better or worse.

Were just gonna have to live with EG this year. We are gonna like him when he gives us yardage and hate him when he doesn't, that's just the way it is.

If EG was trying to make the team as a FB he would have already been cut.

I doubt if we'll play a lot of two-RB sets with George and J. Jones to help out V. Testaverde protection-wise. George is big but blocking was never one of his strong suits as he always played in one-back sets featuring just himself. For added protection we'll use two-TE sets with Witten and D. Campbell.

Maybe he can play safety?

I wasn't very thrilled with the EG pick up but I'm not about to join the screw EG bandwagon just yet. He's definitely not a homerun threat anymore (was he really ever?) but the thing he does bring to the table is that he can teach the younger backs what it takes to make it in the league. How to prepare, how to handle adversity, the trials and tribulations of the football season. Neither J.Jones or R.Lee have gone through that and R.Anderson is too old to carry the full load - so he makes sense to have on the team. Add to that the fact that the guy never calls in sick and doesn't put the rock on the ground (knock on wood! ) he gives us somebody dependable to run out the clock at the end of the game ... should we be fortunate enough to be leading.
As for EG as a FB, c'mon, let's get real.

You know I just don't buy "He can teach the younger backs".
IMHO, you either have it as a running back or you don't.
And the "teaching" is what we pay coaches for. We pay players to be productive and Eddie hasn't been that in a number of years.
As far as running out the clock goes... it helps if you can make first downs. 3 carries from Eddie George probably isn't going to get you the 10 yards you need.

Then make sure to keep the receipt to return it if you don't want to buy it. :D
Evidently someone on the coaching staff/management level disagrees with you ... can you believe that? The nerve.

Oh that damn receipt! It gets me everytime!
Well Nors disagrees with me too, so I don't feel too bad. ;)

Yeah but he probably wants Ty Law to play RB, back up QB and hybrid DE/LB :D

Now that is funny. We need him, and that is sad.
