Personally, I think his movements are a direct attempt to keep the defensive linemen second-guessing the snap and therefore slow down their pass rush.
And I think it directly results in lower sack numbers against the Colts.
I've seen several quarterbacks charged with false-starts this season and it still frustrates me that "the Golden Child" continues to get away with it.

McNabb was one, I think against the Giants early in the season.
He made a subtle move away from the center (seemed to be screwing around a bit), and he was called on it.
The other was more recent, but I can't remember who it was called against - it might have been brother Eli......

I don't know how this got to 3 pages already, so I might as well just add to it. :)
This is nothing new, QBs have done this from the beginning. The QB pointing out the defense is the same as an audible in that it can be a live call or dummy. Dallas does the kill signal and guess what....sometimes it doesn't mean anything. They are just letting the defense think they are going to max protect.
Whether they yell 'blue 42', 'Omaha, Omaha', '62,42' or point at the safety/cb/lb, it just means they are either changing a play, reading how the defense reacts, or sending a fake signal.

he's the Arod of QBs.
there is effective and there is overkill. you could argue it detracts from his game actually. win a superbowl or two doing it then he can have the last laugh.

Mel Renfro Rule:
Double touching of a forward pass is legal, but batting a pass toward's the opponent's end zone is illegal. Previously, a second offensive player could not legally catch a deflected pass unless a defensive player had touched it. This is usually referred to as the "Mel Renfro Rule". During a play in Super Bowl V, Baltimore Colts receiver Eddie Hinton tipped a pass intended for him. Renfro, the Cowboys defensive back, made a stab at the ball and it was ruled that he tipped it ever so slightly (which he denied) into the arms of Colts tight end John Mackey, who ran for a touchdown. Later, this rule was also the one in question during the Immaculate Reception in 1972. But despite these two incidents, the rule change did not occur until the 1978 season.

It looks like an infant imitating an adult. Some might find it amusing in a puerile way, but it wears me right out.
Eli looks like an infant both on and off the field. I would respect the guy if he actually looked like a man.

Erik Williams 'hands-to-the-face' rule, which was pretty much a result of Reggie White's consistent whining because he couldn't get through Erik Williams... after they invented the rule, Erik Williams' play was just not the same...
Definitely wasn't the car accident and debilitating leg injury..

I still can't figure how him pulling away from center isn't a false start........
Manning, Saturday, and most of the Colts' O Line look flag-able on every play!
How do they get away with it?

Peyton Manning is the poster boy for the good side of the NFL. Don't you think that the NFL WANTS him to win.
I don't buy into conspiracy theories, but I do believe that refs officiate games to help some teams beat others.
What do you think the refs really look at when they go under that hood for a replay timeout? The screen in that hood is broadcasting the commish, and he is giving out reasons for the ref to rule a certain way, and he is showing the real time Vegas lines to show how much ca$h is on the line if a given team wins (or loses).
If you told me that you knew of the "tuck" rule before that Brady play, I would call you a liar.
The NFL pulled that rule out of its arse to keep the Pats on the SB run post 9/11.

Well it's been many a moon (Early 60s)..... We beat Texarkana two years straight for bi-district. In "62" we beat them twice on their home field.
Atlanta......Good ole East Texas.... :D

Actually, Cowboy fans should have known of the rule because Quincy Carter had done the very same thing earlier in the year. Of course they didn't call it 'tuck rule' or anything, they just called it 'an incomplete forward pass'. He had also been saved of a fumble in 2003 by the exact same thing.

It is not aginst the rule, he is not doing it to draw the team off-sides he is trying to confuse the defense by making them think he is changing the play.
I know it is not against the rule... once upon a time "pushoff" wasnt a rule, "helmet removal" wasnt a rule etc.... that is my point
understood about trying to confuse the defense

Correct, and if it starts working watch the proclamations of how brilliant it is because our player is doing it.
Or if it starts working they will create a new rule the "Romo false start" rule

you guys ever hear some of the crap peyton says when he is making "adjustments" listen on sunday, you will here him say "OMAHA!" atleast 50 times
At least change up the cadence and the geographical reference, Peyton. Burlington, Ithica, Germantown, Yazoo, Ponder, Dollyville and Lake Okeechobee would be a little more spellbinding.

Not really.
But it still does nothing to negate the fact that it is annoying.
It reminds me of people when they use the "quotation marks" sign with their fingers when talking.
I could attack someone when I see that.
For some reason I think you would. :)

I knew about it. I had seen it called before. As soon as I saw the replay, I knew the officials were going to reverse the call based on the tuck rule. It is a dumb rule, but it was the right call at the time.

No just one that was not inspired by a Dallas Cowboy :laugh2:
Helmet rule - Emmitt
Pushoff rule - Irvin
Horsecollar - Roy
did I miss any?
an offensive player not being able to ush off is a relatively new rule? In what parallel nfl do you watch games? Chris Carter got away with it for years before Michael and its long been a rule
I saw a number of players take their helmet off before Emmit
oh yeah and there are just a few more than 3 rules in the nfl rulebook troll

Or when someone says..I called..or I got a call...and puts their thumb and finger making like a phone. Now that is annoying and stupid. Just tell me, I'm not deaf, and don't need theatrics. :)

If I remember correctly they didnt start calling the penalty on Irvin until later in his career. Regardless of when the rule was created. Defenders cried and then they started calling the penalty.
Yes, you saw a number of players take their helments off before Emmitt. The rule was implemented right after that.
Troll? thats cute.. get informed before you call someone a troll
