...was funny as heck today. Dan was just asking questions and TO had to answer them.

Question: Name a player in the NFL you would most want to fight?
Answer: Parcells.

(Dan said ... TO, you're gonna end back up on ESPN!!!!)

Question: One word to describe Bill Parcells?
Answer: Crazy.

Question: One word to describe President Bush?
Answer: Crazier.

It was like 15 minutes of this. It was real funny today.

Again you follow me in an entirely different thread and make comments about a popular "Black" radio station in Dallas.

First of all, K-104 rarely even plays music at the time I listen to it which is in the mourning.

Second of all, they are a legit source of news with Cowboys/Ex-Cowboys such as Roy Williams, Nate Newton and Deion Sanders coming on a regulary basis and Chris Arnold use to work for The Ticket.

But ignorant, close-minded people like you wouldnt know that

I guess I should be listening to The Ticket 100% of the day where they make fun of Hispanics and Minorities constantly...

Keep on with your Anti-K104 Mantra but of course most "inteligent" people know what you are really trying to say here....

Hey Mike, I'm a 42 year old white woman and a full professor and I listen to hip hop when the spirit moves me, too.

If someone cares to ridicule me for it, I more than 'welcome' the exchange.

Keeping the musical horizons open is like football forums - keeps us "young". (Or at least firmly entrenched in second childhood.):)

True.

The funny thing about is K-104 is not the "main" radio station that plays what this guy obviously abhores, it is 106.1. I rarely even listen to K-104 and when I do, I am listening to The Mourning Team, which was the first to get an interview with Nate Newton (which I provided the transcripts for). Im normally listening to ESPN, The Ticket (when ESPN is on commerical) and believe it or not 107.9 La Que Buena.

I mentioned K-104 in a post ONE time about a week and he starts assuming he knows me and following me around in threads like a Troll...

Just funny that he jumps on K-104 when 106.1 plays alot of the same music and is way bigger..but like I said, I know what he is about...

I guess Country, Rock N Roll, Heavy Metal (all execpt for Country I enjoy) etc etc are not saying the same thing either

Kind of funny how you guys lump Hip Hop together. Guys like Common and Kanye West are much different then guys like Cash Money and 50 Cent.

I clarified my stance a couple posts before your's, and I'm not bashing hip-hop, just today's

I hear ya but something about the bold is just funny :p:

And that is the thing though. This guy comes on here and bashes K-104, but what you described to me above is what I kind of consider "Rap". K-104 definately plays that but they also play alot of Hip Hop, R&B, Soul etc etc.

Guys like "The Poster" (he will be referred to as that name now) lump all of that together and to me that is ignorant.

But I agree, (and this is just my opinion) save for guys like Common, Kanye West, Outkast, Alicia Keyes etc etc, there is nothing new under the sun, but I think you can say that for alot of Genres of Music.

95-2000 isn't "old" to me.

Pick up early 80's Gil Scott-Heron and you'll understand one of rap's most influential roots.

Rock has gone downhill since the mid 70's, but that doesn't stop me from seeking out new artists that don't necessarily rule the Top 40 charts. If the hip-hop you are listening to is about b's, then you need to dig a little deeper.

Guru, Tribe, Brand Nubian, and Mos Def are worth mulling over for decades but there are plenty of 'newer' socially conscious artists worth checking out, and a few 'older ones' gone political or much more introspective.

I'd recommend I Self Devine's "Self-Destruction" to anyone fascinated by the journey an artist can take, and Little Brother for some insight on more recent rap directions.

I think everyone can agree...that what is unfortunately exposed and driven down every 7-17 year old's throat (whether it be hip hop, rock, etc.), is not necessarily the best music of its genre. These are, for the most part, the same songs being played on the radio (if you find a good station, cherish it. from my experience they don't last long when they're not playing top 40). I haven't been able to watch MTV for ten years now. Fuel, and the like, are quickly becoming unwatchable mediums as well. Knowledgeable friends and some programs along the lines of itunes are the way to goe these days...IMO.

Well, obviously I just misunderstood what you were saying. Below was how I saw it:

:hammer:

Yep.

I never forget the "infamous" article Jaques-Taylor wrote saying guys like Roy and Rivera should think about paying Jerry Jones their salary back.

Roy then cowardly left a note in the lockerroom (conveniently where people could find it) with curse words and deragatory statements for JJT.

He was also on K104 a couple of weeks ago getting an attitude when one of the interviewers suggested that he was beat in Coverage.

- Mike G.

Then you came and said something that was waaaay out of left field....

mickgreen you have no say. you listen to K104 which is two federal offenses

1) you listen to the radio instead of your own cds - horrible choice
2) K104? please... if I thought idiots "rapping" about their money and how phat their girl's *** is was cool, I would tune in also

;)

And then you came in this thread and started making comments about K-104 which had nothing to do about this thread.

go look at the free throw differentials.... at one point, Dwayne "I'm a Fake" Wade had more free throw shots than the entire Mavericks team

go look at all the point differentials in th e Mavs losses with the exception of the legit game 4 blowout....1.... 2.....3..... or something of that nature...

EXACTLY!!!!!

and it seems to have been completely fabricated/planned

the league needs a new Jordan (who I held in the highest regard as my favorite player ever since I started watching basketball when I was in the 3rd grade in 1993....)

Jordan played in an era with bad boys doing bad things to each other... Barkley, Olajuwon, Malone, Bird, David Robinson, Dennis Rodman, Magic Johnson, etc etc

Jordan got his, and earned it

Wade.... lol... wow... Wade is a joke. Okay here's the funny thing. You saw Wade getting foul calls for a Mavs player so much as "thinking" of him in a bad way. FOUL!!!! Technical! Josh Howard looked at Wade wrong!!

you saw that in the Finals... then the United States national team, with this joke of an ***hole on the team goes to Europe and suddenly he's not getting those calls that the NBA**holes were pumping up his *** in the Finals...

look nevermind, I'm done with this and I'm stickin by the Mavs to take it all this year

But rock, THAT I can talk about, and you are as right as you could be... consider that the two best rock albums I've heard in the last couple-three years are Springsteen's "Rising" (his next album absolutely sucked), and Bob Seger's latest, "Face The Promise"...

I just got the latter a coupla weeks back, and last Friday night I was going through the Burger King drive-thru window (their grilled chicken salad is the best of any of the fast food places, simply because they give you the chicken separately, in a foil pouch that keeps it hot), and it turns out that a coworker was in line right behind me... Debbie was picking on me at work the next night, commenting on how I had the stereo in my Jeep just blarin' with that
Seger album... I laughed, and told her what she already knew, that I'm hard of hearing... she said she was mostly surprised that I could still get into good ol' rock...

I may be 54, but I'll still like rock and roll if I make it to 94... too bad there aren't many out there making good rock any more...

My nephew/ roommate IS into hip-hop, but when I was chauffering him around for a year after he lost his license, I more or less "forced" him to listen to my tunes... now the kid's as big a Jim Croce fan as you'll ever meet, likes Jimmy Buffett... and just today, he asked for my Seger CD, so he could burn himself a copy of it... I assume he listened to it on his way to work tonight, I'll be interested to see how he liked it...

Maybe it's a good thing his daddy died young, his idea of good music was Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, and of course the only song they ever did worth a hammered crap was the "Down to Seeds and Stems Again Blues"...

I'm corrupting the lad... I"m thinking the next time he's forced to ride with me, I'll inflict a little Grateful Dead on him; I'm sure I've got "Reckoning" somewhere in the house, gathering dust...

I'm always amused at the twists and turns a thread can take... this one went from a discussion about TO's show to a critique (or an indictment) of today's music... :D

Then it morphs into a basketball thread...

LOL

I apologize as well.

I dont think anything is wrong with K-104, but I really dont listen to them all that much. It is normally ESPN, The Ticket (when forced to) and a couple of Tejano Stations (trying to brush up and re-learn on my Spanish).

Funny, Hip Hop is not even close to being my favorite Genre but I wont reveal what my favorite Genre is :laugh2: .

If it ain't blues, you probably oughta keep it to yourself...

And since I'm talking about blues, I'd like to say RIP, Ruth Brown... some of you will know her from Bonnie Raitt's "Road Tested" CD, where she and her husband Charles (who plays a mean boogie-woogie piano) had a rousing role on one of the tunes, "Never Make Your Move Too Soon"...

Ruth passed away on Friday...

Hmmm, I just went looking for an obit on her, and it turns out I may have been supposing incorrectly that Charles was her husband... seems she married a Jimmy Brown, a trumpet player, back in the late 40s... this according to her bio on Wikipedia... they mention her playing with Charles, but no mention of them also being married...

I want to chime in on the rap thing. Im a 90's rap fan. Or, you need to say something, I dont like that rock wit it lean wit it kinda rap. But I will say that the south has made it very hard to like rap now. Whats really bad is the east coast is now doing southern rap just to make sales...But I can understand younger kids who like the stuff because their not really interested in topical issues, most of them just want to party and mess with girls. I cant blame them because when I was young thats what I wanted to do....The great thing about rap is you can get any style you want....
In my CD changer now
1 Outkast
2. BIG
3 Tupac
4 Scarface
5 Ice- cube
6 Redman

I think everyone can agree...that what is unfortunately exposed and driven down every 7-17 year old's throat (whether it be hip hop, rock, etc.), is not necessarily the best music of its genre. These are, for the most part, the same songs being played on the radio (if you find a good station, cherish it. from my experience they don't last long when they're not playing top 40). I haven't been able to watch MTV for ten years now. Fuel, and the like, are quickly becoming unwatchable mediums as well. Knowledgeable friends and some programs along the lines of itunes are the way to goe these days...IMO.

XM radio. It's the awesome.

I messed with Sirius for a bit, mostly for the NFL coverage at the time, but found little of what I wanted. The only "punk rock" I could find was MTV "punk" rock. Every station I listened to would've bet their lives that the Adolescents were a side project for sum 41. I'll try it again if I get a preview from a friends subscription.

Dick Dale fan eh. Good stuff.

I don't think anyone who enjoys playing the guitar cannot be a big Dick Dale fan.

Alot of people think punk rock is dead, and as to national recognition, it is except for the bouncy lyrical stuff MTV will run (Seriously, Avril Lavigne is a revolutionary!) Good stuff is still being made, and XM radio is awesome if you wanna find it. Fungus has special segments for surf-punk, rockabilly, Oi, cover songs, etc. It's really an awesome thing. The crazy thing is, I paid the first month and haven't gotten an e-bill for any other month, but I still have the service.

Thats definitely good to hear, i've been on a big rockabilly kick as of late, and my neck of the woods isn't exactly brewing those shows on a daily basis. Closest bigtime stuff i can get in that category is usually when the Suicide Girls tour comes through. I think there's a bike show coming up in like six months with the Horrorpops, Reverend Horton Heat, etc....but as you can tell, its not on the regular.

I get more than my fair share of the indie scene, some decent metal/hardcore, an occassional talented hip hop band, but not much after that.

It's funny, but now that you mentioned it, I only paid Sirius like 19 bucks. I had service for at least a year before it was cut off. I gueass it was worth it after all.

Check out Municipal Waste if you dig some cool tweener punk/thrash metal.
If you haven't already. Bunch of fun guys i used to party with a few years back.

Again you follow me in an entirely different thread and make comments about a popular "Black" radio station in Dallas.

First of all, K-104 rarely even plays music at the time I listen to it which is in the mourning.

Second of all, they are a legit source of news with Cowboys/Ex-Cowboys such as Roy Williams, Nate Newton and Deion Sanders (When was the last time he ever said anything that was worth listening to?) coming on a regulary basis and Chris Arnold use to work for The Ticket. (Movie watching is a sport!)

But ignorant, close-minded people like you wouldnt know that

I guess I should be listening to The Ticket 100% of the day where they make fun of Hispanics and Minorities constantly...(If you don't listen, how do you know what they do? They make fun of everyone...You are an open target if you do something stupid, they make fun of it.)

Keep on with your Anti-K104 Mantra but of course most "inteligent" people know what you are really trying to say here....(K104 must be doing something right, they have been on the air most of my life time...I don't remember radio without K104...But it's not for me.)

;)

I used to love all kinds of music and I still have a fair tolerance of most of it, although a lot of it these days makes me feel anxious but when I first heard Native American music, especially the flute (Nakai, Douglas Spotted Eagle, etc.), all other forms of music shifted way into the background out of my earshot. I rarely listen to the radio or watch TV any more and whenever I want music, I just grab my cedar flute and head down to the creek. The tranquility is mesmerizing - most modern music is everything but tranquil.

Life is good out here in the middle of nowhere and the thing I love the most is the complete absence of the sounds of the cities.

But I agree, (and this is just my opinion) save for guys like Common, Kanye West, Outkast, Alicia Keyes etc etc, there is nothing new under the sun, but I think you can say that for alot of Genres of Music.

I'll try and get this thread back off-topic. :D

You're right, MG. And I can definitely say "Rock" should be renamed "Rock Bottom." Anyone wonder why the Eagle flipped to Sunny 97 or whatever the hell they call themselves? Today's rock for the most part has been reduced to a bunch of 19 year olds screaming about how their "life sucks" or how they hate their stupid little "girlfriends." And they do all of this while playing the same four chords on the guitar. And when you don't have that, you have to hear groups like Linkin Park and Nickelback, who have basically been regurgitating the same songs over and over again for about 6 years now. Chad Kroeger, lead singer for Nickelback, even produces a band (Theory of a Deadman) that sounds EXACTLY like Nickelback! They are freakin' carbon copies of each other! And people wonder why album sales for rock acts are at an all-time low.

Go look at yes.com and see what the alternative stations are playing these days. You are seeing more and more 90s rock being placed heavier into their rotations because a majority of the new stuff isn't keeping listeners tuned in anymore. When I'm listening to Sirus, I find myself on Buzzsaw more than Octane here lately.

Fact is the music played on the Radio is pure GARBAGE!!! People like to associate hip hop to guys like Chingy and Lil Jon...These Are 'RAP POP' artist... A true ' rap hip hop' artist are guys like the ones I listed above...to say hip hop is dead is stupid, if you say something like that you might as well throw in Rock, cause from what ive heard lately is a bunch of crap when it comes to rock, with that being said it doesn't mean I didn't take the time to go find some rock artist from today because there are true real rock artists....there is TRUE hip hop artist out there, and its not that they're underground, its that they're not POPULAR for todays listener, and then people dont want to give them any air time...I live in Fresno, CA and one of the most played "artist" on the radio today is Baby Bash, and he is the definition of TRUE garbage rap, BUT its whats popular here so he gets the air time. So to call hip hop dead is STUPID. Its alive and thriving people are just looking in the wrong places.

by the way some of the sickest hip hop artist from the past and today are from the south, 'Scarface' and 'Outkast', otherwise most southern rappers are truly pop artists..

har har har... having fun yet?

ask anyone that knows a thing about basketball, and as cop-out as it sounds, the Mavs were CHEATED out of a ring, thanks to David Stern and his evil ref ***got cronies that he bangs on the side

go look at the free throw differentials.... at one point, Dwayne "I'm a Fake" Wade had more free throw shots than the entire Mavericks team

go look at all the point differentials in th e Mavs losses with the exception of the legit game 4 blowout....1.... 2.....3..... or something of that nature...

you know what?

go to youtube and look at the video evidence that someone posted of Dwayne Wade blatantly getting phantom calls, and doing his best actress job to get them

don't bring up "the Finals" ever again, if you're so kind as to do me that favor... it's one of the biggest fallacy's in all of sports, in all of time

the. end.o i hear ya on the calls. david stern is ruining basketball. they always say how d-wade is so "unstoppable" and all that crap but its only because whenever he drives he gets a cheap call. but with that said the mavs still choked

The Mavs CHOKED... that's how they lost in the Finals. Wade got to the line because he penetrated and nobody on Dallas' perimeter D could do a damn thing about it.

2-0 series lead, 13 point lead with 5 minutes left in game 3, and they let up. Miami comes back and wins, and don't look back. Blame your heartless, gutless, non-clutch team for the loss... not the refs.
