Does anyone know the contract status of Marion Barber like how many years are left on his contract?..This guy could start for a lot of teams out there. Should the front office think about extending his contract like Philly always seems to do with their young guys before their stock gets too high.
Just a thought i had

I was thinking the same thing. I think we still have him for two more years, but someone may offer him a huge deal as an restricted free agent, so it would be wise for us to lock him up. Teams die for that kind of production in the red zone.

Barber was fourth round pick and signed for four years. this is only his second year and he has two more years after this season. They are safe with him. Jones will be in his fourth year next season and will have one more year after that so the question will be do you resign him. But right now the Cowboys are set in their contract situations. Newman will be a FA after next season so that is the only player of significance that the Cowboys will look to resign.

While JJ is our starting RB, I think Barber would actually draw more interest on the open market.
Most teams aren't looking for their front line starter, but a guy who can contribute and possibly be a front line starter. Regardless of where you stand on the JJ/Barber RB discussion, I think it's clear that Barber would be the guy most sought by other teams due to his blocking, goal line reputation, and 3rd down position.
Unless a team wants JJ to be their starting RB, he hasn't shown the type of power or receiving game to make teams want to ante up some serious cash for him. Barber has proven more versatile. We will take care of his contract...I think he's of more value to the Cowboys and harder to replace, even if he isn't the starter.

i like jones but barber would be harder to replace than jones.mb3 is so good in short yardage and could carry the load if he needed to.my guess would be if we could only keep one that one would be mb3, but both are set till after next year then who knows we may just draft mcfaddin and let jones go elsewhere

I like the way they're both playing, hell for that
matter the whole team, but i would really pay attention to
them both next season, and if they're playing at this level,
sign them both to extensions.

Barber's nose for the endzone would earn him some dollars.

The question about Barber is could he last a whole season as the primary guy. He has never done that. A lot of backups have looked good part time but when the call came they failed.

Don't worry, Mr. Jones always takes care of the deserving players....and sometimes the not-so-deserving (Vandy)

that is a very legitimate question. i think a lot of teams will pay for that potential although they haven't necessarily seen it on a consistent basis.
This guy has a bright future. i just hope it's in big D

Barber is quickly becoming my 2nd favorite player on the team after you know who, so we better lock him up long-term. i think in a year or two he will become our starter and we will draft somebody to replace Jones. i wouldnt mind keeping Jones but RB's normally dont have a long career so i think it would be better to draft some fresher legs to replace Jones in 2 years.

well you can't pay every player or keep every player if you want salary cap flexibility. We will aparently have a large quarterback cap number in the near future. Just remember its hard to let players go but if you fall in love with them you cant maintain a quality team over the years.

JJ was the main guy for ND his senior year. Barber never was in college.
