Falcons | Vick releases statement regarding exchange with fans
Sun, 26 Nov 2006 18:18:44 -0800
Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick has released a statement regarding his exchange with fans after the team's Week 12 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The statement read: "First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my inappropriate actions with fans today. I was frustrated and upset at how the game was going for my team, and that frustration came out the wrong way. That's not what I'm about. That's not what the Atlanta Falcons are about. I simply lost my cool in the heat of the moment. I apologize and look forward to putting this incident behind me."

Instead of saying "I apologize" he should of said "I'm sorry" cuz at least it would of been true in one sense. He sure as hell wasn't being sincere with the "I apologize" that's for sure.

but Vick was paid 130 million dollars and was a media created "star"...their owner Blank repeatedly refers to him as the "face of the franchise and the NFL" and the guy is a total disgrace

With EXTREME provocation. That was the incident that led to the threatened lawsuit against the NFL.
Still classless to resort to dirty birding, but a much different

Michael Vick is one of the best players in the NFL.
If you watch the games, their receivers drop about 10 passes a game.
Because their receivers can't catch, let alone get open, Vick is forced to run because the O-line can't hold the D-line. I watch.
Vick played his hardest, and a someone said he sucks, I'd be mad to. He just showed it the wrong way. Vick made like 2 or 3 Pro-bowls.
I hate hearing " Vick sucks."

Michael Vick is one of the best athletes in the NFL. This is true.
But stop making excuses for this dud. It appears that Vince Young is getting a better grip of the NFL than Vick.
Vick losing his team each year, each game. Its almost over for him.

Vick is totally overrated. I've always said it. He's a spectacular RB--who throws a little. He's been coddled & ***-kissed from Day 1 by the NFL. It gets really tiresome listening to all the announcers making excuse after excuse after excuse after excuse for him.
Anyway, Jason Whitlock had a very interesting column on AOL about him. (Jason was on ESPN, but had a falling out with Mike Lupica, who then had him banned from ESPN.)

10. Michael Vick, coach killer? Truer words have never been spoken. Thank you, Jim Mora Sr.
A coach killer needs three ingredients: 1. a fat contract; 2. more potential than work ethic; 3. a passionate group of enablers willing to rationalize any and every shortcoming.
Vick has all that and more. He’s a black quarterback playing in a predominantly black city filled with unsophisticated football fans who view any criticism of Vick as racism. Vick will never reach his potential because Jim Mora Jr. is handcuffed by racial politics, and he’s forced to pamper Vick.
That’s why Mora Jr.’s daddy, Jim Sr., agreed with his radio co-host who described Vick as a coach killer. Now I don’t want to put words in Jim Mora Sr.’s mouth. I’m sure he doesn’t want to publicly touch the racial elements of Vick’s underachievement.
I do.
For the last three years, I’ve been hammered by Atlanta sports fans for my constant criticism of Vick. I’ve been called an Uncle Tom. I’ve been called a white racist by e-mailers unaware of my skin color.
You can blame suspect play-calling, poor receivers and an average offensive line for Atlanta’s woes, but most of the blame should be directed at the guy with the $140-million contract and the most raw talent since John Elway. Despite Dan Reaves, terrible receivers, average running backs and a mediocre offensive line, Elway carried the Broncos to three Super Bowls in his first seven seasons.
Denver fans were on Elway’s *** damn near his entire career, and Elway is/was the greatest player ever to play the game.
Meanwhile in Atlanta, Vick, a six-year vet, is being pampered into mediocrity. The fact that he doesn’t do the little things – constant film study, attention to footwork, leadership – is rarely addressed by the national or local media.
Vick is exciting. He runs around in the pocket, sells tickets and is the greatest Madden video game quarterback in the history of Playstation. That, along with a 117-yard passing effort in a 2002 playoff victory at Green Bay, seems to be good enough for Vick’s groupies.
Not for me.
Michael Vick will never reach his potential. Atlanta football fans, a $140-million contract and racial politics have spoiled a great talent.

Today was not his fault, Roddy White dropped a wide open 60 yard pass. Jenkins dropped 3 passes, he has no recievers. Put him on our team and our team would be freaky. I think he is worth 130 million on the right team, the Falcons are not one of them. He had 170 rushng yards today and he close to a 1000 for the season.

Whitlock is actually pretty good. He was the best part of "Sports Reporters" until Lupica got him banned (because he didn't suck up to Lupica). He's written for the Kansas City paper for 16 years. I've always found him to have an interesting perspective on things--I don't always agree with him, but he's thought-provoking.
Be honest. If that had been Bledsoe, losing 4 games in a row, you KNOW what you'd be saying about him!! And what reporters would be writing about him. Plummer is apparently being replaced in Denver for doing poorly--but he's still done better than Vick. Why does Vick somehow get a pass? He's not off-limits for criticism.

Well Vick is overrated, but I really don't understand this total hate for him. (Then again, I knew nothign about the Herpes).
I've gotta say, watching the New Orleans game, that Vick actually seemed to be trying, when he got the ball to his receivers, they just dropped it. The runningbacks stalled inside the 20-yard line.
Yeah, Vick might've lost some games for Atlanta, but you can't blame this loss on him.
He was trying hard to do everything he could, he got annoyed by fans, and he wrongfully showed his anger in an unacceptable way.

Hmm, I'm trying to understand why people can't see Vick's receivers are iffy at best. I by no means condone the actions he took in the heat of the moment but at the same time you can't help but wonder what more can the guy do if the receivers continue to drop passes......bottom line is Vick doesn't suck.

Cox was just a "bad guy." Quite a dichotomy.
I met Plummer back when he was Cardinals QB. I found him to be an arrogant jerk. It doesn't surprise me at all that he did that.
I went to the Draft in NYC this year. There was a Broncos fan who was so happy with the Cutler pick. He was hilarious, and very drunk. I bet he's giddy today.

Sun, 26 Nov 2006 18:18:44 -0800
Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick has released a statement regarding his exchange with fans after the team's Week 12 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Life is simple. Just put incidents behind you. :)
IMHO Vick is poetry in motion on the field. Mesmerizing with runs and electric in scrambling and then passing. Today, had his knucklehead receivers not dropped all those balls, he'd might have had a great day.
But ultimately, I do think the elder Mora was right. You can't win consistently with roller-coaster-like production and emotions. :(

Well Vick is overrated, but I really don't understand this total hate for him. (Then again, I knew nothign about the Herpes).
I don't hate him. I just get tired of the hype about him. He's a terrific RB, & could have been one of the best ever. Unfortunately, he thinks he's a QB (LT is a better passer). Even more unfortunately, he perpetually gets a pass on his shortcomings. I get equally tired listening to announcers kiss up to Favre--the guy is past his prime, should have retired a few years ago, & it's tiresome to constantly listen to all the excuses for him. Ditto for all the Peyton Manning commercials--are there no other NFL players who could be on tv? But back to Vick--seriously, how long does the guy get to "learn" his position? Carr gets blasted; Harrington gets blasted (ironically, we now see maybe it was his crappy OL & WRs); Vick gets excused. And assuming Whitlock has a point, it's also disappointing for us as fans--we might have had a chance to see a truly transcendent QB play the game had he actually been expected to work at improving himself. We'll probably only ever see those tantalizing flashes but nothing more.
