Mickey:
The old kicker is gone, the new kicker is in and I think Bill feels more comfortable with his situation.
I think more than misses and makes, he just lost confidence in Vanderjagt. He didn't want to have to change his play calling fearing the PK couldn't make the kick. Parcells said he doesn't like coaching scared.
Gramatica had a so-so season with Tampa and missed 7 of his last 9 kicks. The interesting thing is that he was on the injury list with a hip muscle strain then. He had surgery to repar a torn abdomen muscle and another torn muscle after that season. Pretty serious injury for a PK. He didn't kick last year because he was rehabbing.
He reportedly kicked well in camp with NE but they took the rookie because of the rehab and age. He also reportedly kicked well with Indy even though it was in a limited role.
He hasn't kicked a real pressure kick in a long time and it is asking alot to have him come in in this sitation with the Cowboys. It tells you how uncomfortable Bill was with Vandy.
Martinez should go on the PC after the paperwork is done with the Arena League.

Automatica Gramatica was one of the NFL's best before injury, here's to hoping the guy can still kick!

I think we're going to see a Marc Colombo type return for this guy. Hey, at least there's hope, which was all but smashed to pieces with Vanderjagt.

When we got Vanderjagt, I was certain our kicking woes were over. When he missed those two in preseason, I told myself, don't worry, when they count he will hit them.
I no longer had confidence in him so I'm not upset he is gone. 2 million against the cap next year is nothing really.
I hope Martina kicks well for us.

The Ellis injury not withstanding, it seems we are charmed in 2006. Wouldn't it be something to see Gramatica return to his 82% kicking average? Heck, for 4 years he was as good as guys like Vinatieri and Longwell. I'm betting he regains his form. At the very least he has to be hungry. I remember one thing about the kid, he has guts. Here's to the kid!!!!

With a size 6 shoe, he could also double for the hobits.

I think that whats important here is... When Martin kicks... hit or miss he will be mentally ready for next attempt.... atleast we hope

I would be nice if his first attempt was from a distance he can hit in his sleep. Stepping onto the field and asked to hit a 45 or 48 yarder first thing could make for an unpleasant situation. A little confidence builder would be a good thing.

I hear ya... but you never know with Bill... he may want to see what he has got right away... or maybe he wants to pressure him right away to get rid of the yips.....
I saw Gramatica kick w/ NE in the preseason and thought he looked good. NE was gonna go with their draft pick either way.

It would be real nice if his first attempt came when we're up about 3 or 4 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. At that point, he can be lining up a 50 yarder for all I care!

Great. The only 3 muscles he has and he's torn 'em all.
Friggin' kickers.

Yep, 100% correct. Wasn't the guy a 4th?
STEPHEN GOSTKOWSKI is a 73% kicker this year so far and Vandy was a 72% kicker. I can't help but think we CAN NOT be worse off with Gramatica.

no doubt, hopefully we can get up big on the Giants and in the 4th quarter he gets asked to make a 25-35 yrd FG and he makes it perfectly down the middle. Wouldnt that just be great...

I wouldn't mention Mark Colombo's name when talking about a field goal kicker. I still haven't gotten over the Washington game and the sick feeling I had afterwards.

No, what would be great is not having to kick a field goal at all. I'll take the touchdown instead.

I don't think that Gramatica is all that worried about where the kick comes from. He has been kicking and was kicking for both New England and Indy already this year. Say what you want about his and his brothers celebrations after kicks.
But he did not get the nickname "Automatica" for nothing. When he was healthy he was every bit as automatic on FG attempts as any kicker in football.
