I see some similarities now that you mention it.

Not really. I happen to really like the movie, but Fox's character and Romo are nothing alike.

I thought when this comparison was first alluded to it was the thought that Romo would follow Payton to New Orleans when he becomes a free agent.

I know not EXACTLY, but young QB takes over for old man QB, has great old coach, has team and fans pumped up...............

Varsity Blues. Wasn't the QB's name Johnny Moxie or something? That movie is ridiculous, my old position coach was in that as an extra and football player and he said he was absolutely embarassed to be part of the final product, we had to find him in a close up in a lockerroom scene to make him fess up to the rumor.

All the way to the Super Bowl, baby!

I agree, the central idea applies. But highly contrasted characters....

And I thought the movie was so, so ....

But give me a "great" football movie, and I'll give you a million dollars....

It was Moxon in Varsity Blues. In Any Given Sunday the old guy stepped away graciously.

No.

Romo is the anti Willie IMO because of the attitude and getting the big head, doing the opposite of what the coach says, nervous and throwing up before and in games.

Also on a side note, I love most football movies, that was not one of them.

Thought it was a huge letdown...especially for a movie with pacino in it.

That was another one that I just did not like.

Actually pretty much thought it sucked but I have no ties to texas football other than the Cowboys.

Heck I like North Dallas Forty and the original Longest yard.

Heck I would rather watch The Replacements (yes I know the skin), Little Giants (yes I know they beat the boys) or Necessarily Roughness.

At least those were funny in spots.

ironically, Owens is a receiver in the movie on that team... but besides that point, Romo knows plays and makes reads and we have no washed up, overpaid players anymore

But give me a "great" football movie, and I'll give you a million dollars....Necessary Roughness, Kathey Ireland is their kicker, it is a pretty clever lampooning of the old SWC and college football in the state of Texas.

"Brian's Song."

"Rudy."

"Remember the Titans."

4 million dollars please.

Uh, Hello.............The Waterboy???
But seriously, there was a pretty good one with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell too, when the guys get back together to replay there High School Championship game 20 years later, or something like that. Can't remember the name of it, but I always liked that one too.
And The Program is cool, even if the acting sucks arse. There's some great football footage in it and the hits are nasty......like roy williams nasty.

I liked the movie, but there was way more turbulence on that team, than on ours. Bill Bellamy was not the selfish WR, LL was the selfish RB.

"Brian's Song."

This would be my #1 choice. I'd have to throw "Heaven Can Wait" or "Paper Lion" could be mentioned in that list too.

The football action in "Remember the Titans" was horrible. I know it is difficult to replicate the game, but you have to do better than that. I liked the story, but hated the football.

I didn't like "Any Given Sunday", but I did like some of the camera shots of the game. The final drive was so unrealistic. I think they ran 10 plays in 30 seconds with no timeouts or something.
