View Full Version : Okay, who besides me is sooo dumb....
My GF's friend at work has an X'mas party every year. I mean this is a real boring affair. She asked me to go again a month ago. I told her I'd rather not, but if its a big deal to her I would...She asked if we could be late and leave early around 9'ish...I said OK...Just a guy being nice to his GF.
Guess what, next Saturday (the night of the party), we have an 8 PM kickoff !
What an idiot, I didn't even realize.
Does the game actually start at 8 ? Is there a pre-game ? A long national anthem song ? Should I blow her and the boring party off so I don't miss the 1st quarter ?
What's your thoughts ?

Don't blow her off. What time would you get back? Midway through the 2nd?
If she's a keeper, live through it.

You better make sure you've got the NFL Network first. If you don't this whole thing is moot anyway.

Is that the game on NFL Net?? if you don't have that, it may be a moot point anyway...
Edit: Good call Parch
Its on the NFL Network. If you don't get the channel and they do then party on. But if you have the channel, inform your GF that you had a previous engagement.

Yes I am serious.
They have Cabelvision, I know because I worked on their computer and they have Optonline. No NFL Network.

Funny, my daughters BF's is a big Dallas fan also, she plays mind games with him (Like she used to do with me)...What is more important, me or Dallas games.
Any idea of my drop dead time ? I haven't watch the beginning of a NFL channel game yet...10 minutes before kickoff, more ? Less ?
When I leave at 7:45 or so...and how she reacts, will tell me if she is a keeper or not.
Edit...I have DirectTV, hence the NFL channel....My GF has Comcast, NFL channel and a high Def 55" TV. Knock on wood I haven't gotten sick in 10 years...But my GF has a real problem with hangovers.
Can anybody say Tequila Friday night...

Wow, I didn't realize until reading this thread that I have a party I have to go to as well that night. Didn't even realize the game was saturday night!
Well, that's why they make DVRs... at least I won't have to watch any commercials once I start watching it sat. night.
Edit: I'm stupid... my party is this Saturday. That's why I got married, so someone would keep this stuff straight for me!

If you really like this girl, record the game and go to the party. You will probably get rewarded.
If you don't like this girl, blow her off.

that seems like the most win win win situation there is
Good to see another Connecticut Cowboys fan. ;)
We've gotten all the games this year!
Something funny.. apparently my roommates and I are throwing a party at our place on Saturday night, and everyone has been asking me about it. My response? "I don't know anything, ask someone who is going to be there".
I'm not going to be around, I've gotta go find a bar with NFL Network. It's hard to be a broke college student, I don't have the money to get NFL Network here at school (UConn), so.. the bar it is.
I won't miss a game, I refuse.
Onto your situation, that's a tough one. I think you just need to find a way to watch the game.. one thing that's on my mind is the fact that we may have a chance at clinching a playoff spot on that Saturday night.
I once faked being sick, back when I was younger, to watch a Cowboys game. I believe it was Christmas Eve against the Giants--we had a family get together, and I pretended to throw up in the bathroom a couple times in the morning. Worst part? I think I was about 8 or 9 years old..

There's no way in hell that I'd miss a Cowboys game. My wife knew the score way before we married. I'd tell that you're not missing the Cowboys game and if she has an episode, that'll tell you all you need to know. ;)
On the other hand, there's always Tivo.

Just make sure you can record it (DVR, or even VCR if you're primative) and that you have absolutely no way to learn the score or hear anything about it. Though if you're in Dallas that could be a problem. Otherwise I do that crap all the time if I can't be there for some reason or another. Even when I am here I'll let the DVR lapse for about a half-hour/hour to make sure I don't got no commercials to watch.

DVR the game and ignore all media, until after you watched it. I have done this before, and it works as long as you dont answer the phone, dont watch any TV, or listen to the radio. You can actually enjoy yourself at the party, not rush home, get some when you get home. Partake in the obligatory cuddle session afterwards, then get up and enjoy the game. Get plenty of sleep before the party seeing as it will be a late night for ya.

Im way to impatient to DVR the game and then rewatch it, i need to know the score asap so recording wouldnt be an option... I learned a long time ago that compromise is the best option... honey if I go to the party with you, what do I get out of it. Usually they will say something like the pleasure of spending time with me, but since this is game night she just needs to give you a little extra incentive. :D
Yes you may miss the game but you could be spending time with your next wife...
Aww hell who am I kidding blow her off and watch the game. Better yet go to the bar with some friends and watch it, There might be someone there to replace her with anyway..... My new motto. Women are replaceable.....lol

Critical, untimely work calls/pages happen. You've got to leave the party and keep the company afloat. That should solve the problem unless you work at a doughnut shop or something. If that's the case just answer the phone and then tell her "Time to make the doughnuts!" and proceed to the loving arms of your TV set.

My wife knew even as my girlfriend that missing Cowboy games was not a option.:D
My wife likes to tell people the story of the first time she realized what a nut I was...was the first Draft after we started dating which was about one month she was working that day and called me to see when she came to see me on her lunch if I wanted anything to eat. So I said sure.
So she comes over and I'm in my old ratty robe and sweat pants with my chair pulled up about two feet away from the TV with all my draft magazines laying around and papers with the players that the Cowboys had drafted sitting there and she walks in and she's like...FREAK!
She decided that I was too good a catch to let go so she decided to overlook this one "Bad" habit that I had, which was never to miss a Cowboys game.:D
Hell we were in St Croix during the Philly games this year and here we are in this Beautiful place and on Sunday Afternoon Both of us are watching the game in our room.:p:

I am sure some have heard this story before but here goes again...
Many years ago it was the first pre-season game of the cowboys that season.
I was watching the game at my parents house.
My mom kept saying, you better hurry up and start getting ready.
I had family members from out of town there as well.
I kept saying, in a few minutes.
Finally after the first quarter was over and I knew there would only be the backups playing I went and got ready.
When I go to where I was supposed to be that day, I was not late, but I was not there when I was expected to be there.
The wife was nervous asking why I was not there earlier.
I told her the cowboys were playing and I wanted to see a little of the starters.
So she understood, we made sure everything was setup at the church and about 45 minutes later we got married.
True story.:laugh2:
