View Full Version : RECAP: Norm on Owens...

His lack of physicality concerns me. This is supposed to be a physical WR.
He short arms balls a good bit and his head swivels around to see if he is going to be hit.
He has produced here, but he hasn't made an impact; there is a difference.
He's on pace to make 90+ catches. I'm not saying Dallas isn't a better team with him, but is it worth the aggravation for the lack of impact he is making?
He felt betrayed that certain things in the lock room got out in the public. He has spent a lifetime positioning himself in public. He can't ba upset about that, he loves the stage. What was the birthday party about?
To say he resents some things getting in public and betrayed is only because he didn't have control of THAT situation.
Dropping passes. He admits he's distracted by what's going on, but in honesty he is the one doing the distracting. Saying he admits he isn't always into it on the field is not a good thing.
Stating he ran wrong routes last night is unacceptable. That has quietly been a complaint about him all year among the offense.

Another post to try and deflect the attention away from the real issue... Our absolutely horrid play-calling on the offensive and defensive side of the spectrum...

Well, Owens has been known to short arm passes, especially when he is not getting along with the QB. He did it in SF and Philly.
But regardless, Parcells is a thought by most to be a Master of Psychology. When you got a guy that is so sensitive that he would even get mad at his own shadow, you have to keep that in mind and make sure to call some "gimmee" plays to at least get his hands on the ball.

First off he recapping a radio interview, which a lot of us appreciate.
Second its easy to blame the offensive playcalling, but the real problem was execution. NO got pressure on Romo pretty much all game and threw the timing of the entire offense off. Everyone always cries about play callig in losses but the fact of the matter is the offense just didnt get it done.

Why is Norm talking about frick'n Owens.
Lets talk about the real reason we lost...the Defense and Mr Shellshock Parcells.

I do believe that Norm was taking issue with Owens for the entire year. He wasn't pinning the loss on him. So, again, this is a separate issue than the playcalling.
Not to mention Norm talked about the game for a long time before he did this segment.

And I agree, but not to mention the issues Owens is having just because our team has other problems is a bit silly. At least I think so. :)

i think norms post above is a pretty fair assesment, period.

I agree with Norm. The thing is apparantly coaches (other than Todd Haley) are not big on him either. A good friend of mine had dinner with Chris Palmer a few nights ago...and let's just say Palmer didn't speak kindly about Owens. He said he is moody and plays scared (of hits).

I've noticed TO's lack of physicality too
running out of bounds, sliding, when he can still get a couple of more extra yards
and he's not battling man-coverage like he used to, he's letting Fred Thomas of all corners, contain him one-on-one

Personally, I agree pretty much (not completely) with what he said, but I can't stand the man and I think he's an idiot.
Thanks Norm, but you still have no cred with me.

...because it was costing the Cowboys in terms of effort on the field. Bryant was chastised for it even though all Cowboys supporters knew this kid had talent.
It's troublesome that T.O. after 13 games and alot more salary is making mental errors.
Why mention it? Is he not suppose to be a big part of our offence?

It was indeed.
There difference, of course, is that TO actually DID something on the field before he became a Prima Donna whereas AB thought he was Prima Donna by birthright. ;)

I usually don't get into these TO things but I think the guy has some valid points which are concerning.
What I'm seeing is the guy is dropping too many balls including TD passes, not adjusting to the ball well like for example not running under that long sideline ball after burning the CB, and having to jump into the media to become the center of attention to mention just three. Add also not being physical/talented enough to get separation.
The guy is right. He's producing but so would Glenn and Crayton/Hurd/???. He's supposed to be an impact player and he's not doing that.
I supspect he's got a personality disorder. But I think he's more about jumping from team to team for big bucks. I know within a reasonable degree of certainty this is true and my proof is merely common sense so take that for what it's worth.
What we got is not a playmaker but a man who either doesn't care if he plays at the level 'most' expect him to play, has been so distracted himself he plays subpar, and/or all the above plus he just can't play to that level 'most' expected esp for the bucks.
It is painful to watch a team that could win a SB play below it's level with one reason being a player doing all that has been mentioned. I'm not blaming all on Owens. We have multiple problems as does every team in the NFL. There is no one or two teams well above the level of the better teams in the league this year.
Bottom line is we no need this crap.

A little sensitive on this forum...
I was talking about Norm...
What he said is what has been said since the beginning of the season regarding TO... It is nothing new...
As I see it, it is casting the whole blame of this loss on TO, and not the play-calling.... otherwise, he would have said something that has not been said like 12 billion times already... let the psycho-analysis of TO begin once again... because it's obvious that TO is the problem in the pass rush...
there is a serious problem here... Dallas, defensively, is suffering from the same problems it has been suffering since Parcells began his TENURE here.. Dallas has not fixed it's pass rush, even with the switch to a Parcell's oriented 3-4 defense... this was way before TO came... with TO, our offensive production has at least increased... our defense on the other hand AS NOT....

Ya know I sick and tired of the if you don't like what Parcells is doing well lets bring back Campo crap.
Campo never had a Head Coaching Job compared to a Hall of Famer.
Hall of Famers are held to a higher standard.
Parcells has done one thing that Campo didn't...Get to ONE Playoff game...And then he got embarrassed in it.
It has nothing to do with being from NYC. Although I will admit that I will always consider him a Carpetbagger.
