If, they don't call Newman for hitting a defensless receiver on the dirst drive of the game do you think the game turns out any differently? Do we gain confidence and some mo? Just curious? It certainly isn't the reason we lost, but as poorly as our secondary plays it would have at the very least been a positive start to the game!

Not with the way this team plays...im pretty confident they would have drove the length of the field on the next possesion...

It would have at least gave the Defense SOME confidence, but who knows what would have happened.
On the call itself, it was the worst call I have ever seen. These guys can't even play football anymore. The league is treating the Offense like they are bunch of sissies.
They have diluted the talent pool with so much expansion, they have taken away the incentive for the defense to play hard and they have created a league where even 8-8 teams, teams without a winning record gets into the playoffs.
This is nothing more than a shadow of what the league once was and it's a shame.

Probably right, but at least we would have been tied! Only joking!

Agree. I don't see how you play d anymore with any aggressivness at all!
That play reminded me of last week's failure to score at the goal line against Philly.
I think both scenarios deflated this team. To score on the game's first play would have been a huge lifter. It's quite discouraging, though, to think one play into the game would cause them to get their heads down to such a large degree.

I think Cajun hit it on the head. There are 212 guys in the NFL that don't deserve work. Expansion has brought parity, as well as, the salary cap.

That call gets my vote for the worst I have seen this season. I could not believe they called that. Since when is it a penalty to make a clean hit on a receiver going across the middle. What was Newman suppose to do, wait and let the receiver catch the ball before he hits him. Trash call period!

That one play would've made a huge difference in my opinion. The Lions were like "here we go again" and then the officials gave them new life. It was a horrible call. It wasn't the only thing that went wrong today, but to be up 7-0 on the FIRST PLAY would've gave us some some swagger.

Have you ever listened to that guy? To listen to him you wouold think that the reffs NEVER make an improper call. I don't know if he has ever agreed with Rich on calling out the refs, but I agree it should be brought up!

Why?
Here's how it will go...
MP... "Yeah, it looked a little suspicious but it's hard to tell what the official was seeing from his angle."
Rich Eisen..."What about the play in Green Bay"
MP..."Now that's something we can look closer at."

The team picked up A LOT of momentum on that 99yd TD drive...
only to have the defense let the air out of that on the Lions' next drive.
Despite the 5sacks, This Dline can't get ANY significant or consistant pressure on the QB. Hassellbeck will chip away at the 2ndary just like the Lions did...and Eagles did...and Saints did...

That play was a 14 point swing. Hard to imagine it didn't effect the outcome of the game.

I hate the way we make every QB look like a freakin' Pro Bowler.

Couldnt have hurt considering on offense we ended up with more punts than 1st downs in the 1st quarter.

It was only a 10 point swing...
But I do agree that it changed the game a lot

I can't believe he tried to field that punt.
