Who will we have to compete with and is there a current HC that might come avl. that you would want?

Atlanta/Mora
Miami/Saban (He could leave for the Alabama gig)
Jacksonville/DelRio (I don't expect him to leave just yet)
Cleveland/Cornell (sp)
Pittsburgh/Cowher (I hope this could come true since Fisher is staying)
Tampa Bay/Gruden
Oakland/Shell
Giants/Coughlin
Arizona/Green

Counting the Cowboys, that could be ten teams looking for HC's next year.

And please don't tell me that we would hire from within.

Bob Stoops, the next Cowboys head coach

Oh_Canada
12-31-2006, 04:23 PM
Fisher was my first choice....but that's out the window.

Cowher is next.

Maybe Mora who I think is better than his record has shown with Atlanta.

The rest are trash, unless you bring in Crennel to run the defense.

No college coaches thanks.

Kirk Ferentz

Head Coach

Eighth year at Iowa

Jimmy Johnson would be my first choice for HC! I can only dream but hey Parcells came back. I think deep deep down inside Jimmy wants to coach again and why not in Dallas where they will be opening a brand new state of the art stadium soon enough.

cowboyfan4life_mark
12-31-2006, 04:25 PM
I don't know.

On one hand I can just see Parcells staying one more year and then Jerry paying alot to Fisher.

On the other hand I can see Parcells leaving and Cowher coming in.

I am not for this, as I think he is a great coordinator, but not so good of a HC....but if Tuna leaves, don't be suprised if Jerrah brings Norv Turner in.

I would actaully be good with Stoops, this team needs a coach to light a fire under their arse, he will just need some good coordinators....so Zimmer must go for it to work.

Pittsburgh will let Cowher walk if that's what he wants to do. They don't strike me as an organization that will stop a guy who has given them 15 years of good service and a Super Bowl from leaving for another opportunity out of spite.

None of the listed choices except MAYBE Cowher or Gruden.

If Cowher leaves Pittsburgh I think its a given he takes at least a year off, maybe two, so fugghetaboutit.

I think Gruden will still be in TB next year and he'd be probably 4-5th on my list, maybe lower. He can come in and light a fire under this team's @$$ and can do wonders with inherited talent, but I'm still iffy on him.

My choices:

1. Jimmy Johnson (and then we woke up...)
2. Jeff Fisher - no chance for '07, and I'm sure Tenn will lock him up with a nice extension before he hits the market. But I would absolutely be climbing the walls with excitement if we could land him.
3. Sean Payton - yep, we whiffed on that one, huh?
4. Charlie Weis - I think Jerry has the cash and the clout to lure him away from ND. Only other contender would be NYG. Our offense would be SICK if he came in, and he'd bring in great assistants.
5. Denny Green - :lmao: just seeing if you're paying attention :)
I really don't know who else I'd want....I'm not sold on too many college coaches other than Weis, who has NFL experience. Stoops? Maybe, but no one knows how he'll pan out. Pete Carroll? Good lord, NO!!!!

I've always been a Parcells fan even since his NYG days, but even I admit...time to move on. *IF* we finally fire Zimmer, he could be great again in '07, but I've lost all confidence in him.

EDIT: I'd love to see Crennel or Singletary as DC, whether Parcells stays or we have a new HC.

Jimmy Johnson (our old coach..pipedream)

Bob Stoops

John Gruden

A few names that don't get talked about on this forum, but could possibly happen.

1. Norv Turner, history with Jerry.
2. Mike Martz, I thought Jerry wanted him, until he was promised the job once Vermile left.
3. Gregg Williams, just to spite the Munchkin, plus he is a defensive guy.

I know everyone is dreaming of Miles, Stoops, Cowher and others, but I think these picks are realists.

Not as good as he was before but you don't have to be THAT good in a leage that lets 8-8 teams into the playoffs.

I think he wouldn't coach afraid like Parcells does. JJ would go after the juglar ever chance he could. AND he would use TO more like he used Irvin.

Maybe, but I think he could handle him better and use him better.

Now the off field stuff is another issue.

Though that said, I don't think TO has been that much of a distraction. Kinda minor to what we all expected.

Jimmy would turn this ship around right quick. The Miami gig? Please...he won't be saddled with a Dan Marino if he came back, or a clueless owner. He'd make a few trades, cut the fat, and immediately foster a no-BS, winning culture. It will never happen, but can you imagine what a story it would be?

I'm gonna go watch my new Cowboys Super Bowl DVD's now (the ones with Jimmy).... :(

Martz or Turner? No thanks! More than enough evidence out there to know that both of them are great coordinators, but subpar head coaches in the NFL. I'd be pretty PO'd if Jerry went for them.

Williams is somewhat intriguing. But there's plenty of others ahead of him on my list.

Johnson makes too much money as an arm chair quarterback and talking head on Fox. He says stupid things at present as well making me believe he plays more golf and scuba dives then he pays attention to the modern game.

It would be like having Abe Lincoln advise Bush, "Quickly Mr. President dispatch a rider to inform your generals...what is this telephone you speak of?"

First...that was funny!!

Second...Jimmy's ego is as big as Jerrys. I bet that if he ever came back to coaching, this would be the best situation for him. He doesn't have to rebuild and he has money in the cap to put his prints on this team with both coaches and players.

At some point you have to look at the defenses problems and say it's coaching. 3rd and long, soft zones, no creativity with blitzes. That's not the players fault. That's the scheme. Liosn go 5 wide. We rush Brady James at the center 1 on 1. No overload to any other side. Just let 5 guys go 1 on 1 with the Lions OL. It's in a nutshell the type of **** Zimmer has done all year.

Zimmer teaches a fine bend but dont break defense. But he is unable to take the reigns off and let the team play up to their potential. He's a coward. We're getting burned for long 3rd down convertions with his sit back coverage, it wouldn't hurt to just send a rush, maybe force an errant throw or two, or maybe even get a sack. Or worst case, give up what has become the inevitable 3rd and long conversion

I know, I know, if the O-line produced...

I just don't have faith in Jones and would like to keep Barber in his current role.
