[BEGIN of PC]

Game looked the same on film as at the game. Offensively it was a question of mistakes in the red zone. He had a fumbled snap, and it forced us to take 3 (points). Next we had 22 plays, then botched the FG. Fumbled the ball down there late in the game, which was our last chance. Didn’t stop them defensively all day. 6 penalties on tackles. Big penalties on defense that moved the ball. Not very good on defense at all.

Injuries don’t look as bad as they did yesterday, but won’t know for sure until Wednesday.

Would have used ReShard more had we been able to get it down to 4 points again. He’s coming on, and I’m hoping to use him, but he’s not ready for a full-time role. He’s coming along, that’s why we kept him on the team.

{About Eddie’s role} It’s the same as you asked for months now, I’m going to use multiple guys to carry the ball. Richie played too much yesterday, and has a nick today. We’ll have to see Julius in practice on Wednesday.

We don’t want to switch the safety positions, so Roy’s the guy that had to do that to try to shut down Moss. He was a factor, but he wasn’t a major factor. That’s not the same group of guys (on defense) as I’ve seen in the past.

I knew we’d have trouble with Minnesota because they’re a very good offensive team. If you’d told me we would put up over 400 yards, I’d say we have a good chance to win. But we wove enough mistakes in there that it wasn’t close.

I’m not happy with what I’ve seen, that’s for sure. It’s a long season—this is only one game. But there will be 16 teams after tonight that will be wondering if they’ll win another game, and we’re one of them.

I haven’t even had a chance to talk to my trainers yet, so I don’t know about those guys (Walter and Gurode). But I know a little about the results, that’s why I said it doesn’t look as bad as it did yesterday.

I’d be hard-pressed to name one guy on defense that played up to his potential.

We weren’t good in the red zone on either side of the ball. Today we’ll review and get the information to the players, and then Wednesday we’ll start getting ready for Cleveland.

We can’t be an I.E. (Instant Evaluator) on anyone at this point, whether it’s the negatives of the defense or the positives like ReShard Lee.

We had to do something, and we didn’t expect (Chris) Cooper to come open. We weren’t going to use Powell anyway, so that seemed to be the thing to do (to waive him). We didn’t have to give up much for him, so we’ll see what he can do. He’s healthy enough to practice (had a calf strain in the summer). He has some height, and has started some.

Wasn’t good news for any of the LBs. I expected us to be able to get some stops. After the score at the half, I thought we’d have some momentum, but we didn’t. Then they scored, and we scored again. If anything was going to do it, that would have. But it didn’t.

McBriar hold thing – he gets more time to practice it, but I’ve always used a QB. And that’s what we’re going to do from now on. We won’t have a punter holding anymore—or at least this punter. That’s my mistake.

I don’t know how the team will react on Wednesday. But it’s a little early for the State of the Union. Let’s get into November, let’s get halfway, and see where we are. Let’s leave the funeral hearses in the garage for now.

We’d like to be able to run more. But we couldn’t do that, and we were moving the offense in the air. No one wants to throw the ball 50 times a game. But we only gave up one sack on a scramble and no INTs. So it wasn’t hurting us to do that. I just felt that being 11 points down, we needed to do that to close in. And I thought we might be able to do that in the middle of the 4th, but we couldn’t make a play defensively…and we didn’t.

Richie has fumbled before, and not just last year. And he needs to take better care of the ball. But he played too much.

ReShard Lee isn’t quite interchangeable with Richie—there are some things he’s still a little slow on. But in retrospect, I might have used him more in that regard.

The last decision for gameday was whether to take CB Thornton or the 8th O-lineman. And I’m glad retrospectively that we took the 8th O-lineman. N. Jones made it over Thornton because he can play the nickel, and I wanted some depth there.

Noll (G picked up on waivers from Rams) is smart, so I think he’ll know the system. But we’ve got to get him some work this week, for sure.

Talked some about specific situations in the red zone.

We didn’t make a lot of mental mistakes. A few on defense and a few on offense. I didn’t expect us to make a lot. If we play like that we won’t win any games. But I think we’ll play better.

I think we’ll stay with what we have at CB. They’re young guys, and I’m not ready to give up on them. I’m going to try to get through the season with them.

Don’t single out any one player—like Hunter. I know people are, but every throw to the other side of the field was completed. So it was across the field.

We should have had over 30 points with over 400 yards.

I’ve not thought about how I’ll handle them. We’ll do most of our talking tomorrow. I’m typically easier on guys after a loss, but this might be the exception.

Guys—please let’s get off the state of the union, okay…please. It’s one game. I know it’s your job, but it’s just not time. I’m sorry if I’m not informative enough for you today, but I just don’t know some things.

That's good new at least. I don't want to lose Gurode, I think he could really come on this year.

I can't believe they didn't hammer Parcells on why Julius didn't play. They didn't ask one time about his health or why exactly he didn't play after practicing all week. Not one time!

It's funny how even the radio tough guys like Chuck Cooperstein seem intimidated by Parcells. Just ask him the question!

Thanks for the recap. All in all, it's about what I expected.

They did, he did the same we'll see song and dance.

As long as EG and Anderson are on the team, it will be very hard to have both Jones and Lee active.

They did mention it, and I may have neglected putting it into the recap. He said he just didn't look good in practice. When asked about whether he would play this week, he said he'd see what he looked like on Wednesday at practice.

I agree...and its too bad, because Jones and Lee are both FAR superior players to those two right now. We'll be bailing out alot of teams defensively this yr if we continue to do the stupid crap we did yesterday in regards to RB's playing time

Says who? I would be inclined to agree with you if running ability is all that counts, but there are other aspects to being a good or as you put it FAR superior running back.......blocking, catching, leadership, knowing all of the plays, etc.....By the way....it's only one game......;-)

Like not fumbling the ball?

Well the Pats was blanked last year by the Bills in week 1. We had them down in the first qtr and IMHO Parcells blew it by making some bad calls in the redzone. Had the Boys gone up 10-0 or even 14-0 it could have kept the swing of the game in the Boys favor. However the Boys left the door wide open and the Vik's and that crackhead R/B Smith stepped right through it on the Vikes next drive.
