Moss' comments stir up Owens

Terrell Owens began by suggesting that he had no intention of getting himself involved in a verbal duel with Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss.
But Owens' intentions could not survive the first few questions he was asked at his weekly news conference onThursday.

Asked how he reacted to Moss' contention that he ranks above all other receivers because no one gets the same type of fierce coverage, Owens stayed outwardly calm.

But you had a feeling he was handling things differently on the inside.

"That's great," Owens said of Moss' comments. "That's fine and dandy. I've always given Randy his credit and his just due because he's a great receiver. If he doesn't feel like I'm in comparison to him, that's great."

But then Owens went on to get in some shots of his own.

"My thing is, if I were thinking of great receivers who I'd want to be compared to, I would obviously say guys like Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin. Regardless of what (Moss) says, if I'm not compared to him, or he feels like he's on another planet, it doesn't bother me."

Personally, I don't believe in the "show me up" thing since they play the same position and don't go against each other - neither can do a darn thing to stop the other so I always find these comparisons ridiculous "Moss against Owens" - maybe in the parking lot after the game but certainly not on the playing field.

Normally, I think these media inspired face offs are just that. Ratings tactics.

But TO is such a narcissistic nutcase, I think Moss getting more limelight than he does just could provoke him into a fine, maybe even a suspension, if those cameras linger too long on Randy. If McFlabb isn't showing TO enough ball, we could see a very public blowup unfold.

Of course, Moss isn't too many seasons away from brow beating Culpepper on the sidelines either. :p What a riot if they BOTH went off on their QBs!

At the very least I expect Owens him to make a silly arse of himself, and embarrass his organization. Public humiliation or ridicule would be as good a way as any for the Philly roller coaster to start plunging....doooownnn....at a record speed.

Anyway, I'm cheering for Daunte to throw SIX TDs on Monday night.

Dreaming is good. You might want to wake up before Monday though. Shepherd alone hasn't got a prayer of shutting down Moss. He's nowhere near Terence Newman and he couldn't do it.

Although two were for touchdowns, they were like 5 yard passes that were impossible to stop.

Moss had a big game (7 receptions for 95 yards and a TD).
Carter had a big game (5 receptions for 81 yards and a TD).
Vincent and Talyor didn't do much...
Now we have Kearse and Owens...

I know, I think he will have a better game too, I wasn't serious with my first post, I thought Owens receiving 4 TD passes and throwing another would have made that clearer...I guess not.

Moss may be shut down, I don't care. There is no "Randy Ratio", give him 7 catches for 95 yards and a TD, as long as we win 48-17...

I am sure he will have more catches and yards, but a couple more scores than two? You wouldn't be surprised if he had 4 TD?

Umm...Good...

Manning/Harrison is undoubtedly the best QB-WR combo in the league IMO, Culpepper/Moss are second...What's your point? Do you actually expect someone (besides Irvin) to say that McNabb/Owens is the best QB-WR combo in the NFL after 1 game??? Lets see what they can do against a team that at least finished with a winning record last season before anyone labels them the best.

The media keeps trying and trying to make TO say something, TO is doing a great job so far.

I also love how people think TO will go off on McNabb or Reid. Terrell and Donovan are best friends right now. TO loves it here, unlike when he was in SF and hated Jeff.

Very astute, R-Dub. From the matchup standpoint I totally agree. One will be an interesting matchup with TO having an edge over Winfield the other will be a rape. When you factor in the quarterbacks throwing at the said matchups the chasm widens.

I heard something on the radio this morning where a reporter was asking Hugh Douglas about this whole thing.

He said something along the lines of neither will be on the field at the same time because they are both on offense...so he suggested that right before the game starts they should have a pose down on the field.

Thought that was kind of funny.

Too bad 11 games is not a season...nor is the playoffs the regular season.

I predict a big score and tons of passing by both Offenses....defense be damned, it should make for a very entertaining game.....Go Vikings (not just because I hate the eagles...but I am a Moss homer as he played at Marshall.)

The two things that make me think the Eagles will win are:

Vikings 1-15 outdoors under Tice.
Eagles 13-1 durring primetime games under Reid.

Both "1"'s are from the first week of last season.

8 catches for 69 yards and a TD isn't exactly shut down numbers.

While the Eagles as a team outplayed the Vikings, it was clear in that game that Moss was a bigger threat than Owens. Very rarely do you see an offense centered around a WR like that. Certainly not on the Eagles.

Agreed....I have said it before that no one CB can shut moss down for an entire game.

Moss was clearly the better WR on the field last night....he was just not on the better team.

Actually, that would be a really tough call. Both Moss and Owens have big mouths and "attitude" problems, but only Moss has gotten in trouble off the field. I'd say on the field Moss is better overall, but Owens is better at some things.
