Summary:

I wish I could include some of the comments of "experts" around the league to go with this because I'm sure the results so far aren't what the "experts" expected. You could say that none of the quarterbacks have really played like Pro Bowlers yet but that's what you get when you sign other team's leftovers. No quarterback has led his team to a 2-0 record. Vinny Testaverde, however, leads all of the offseason quarterback candidates in the stat department. With the best stats and a similar record as other players, Testaverde looks like a steal considering the small contract the Cowboys gave him. It seems like the Redskins and Dolphins severely overpaid for their starting QBs with both handing out high draft picks. Comparing the signing bonuses, it's pretty obvious that the Skins jumped too early in free agency and overpaid for their QB.

still way to early in the year to be judging it tho, IMO.

That's why I plan on periodically updating this thread as well as the RB one. ;) But, I have a feeling that unless Testaverde gets injured or his body just gives up on him, the Cowboys did a lot better than the media hacks were accusing them of.

Awesome post. And great positivity. Imagine how good we would be without the self inflicted wounds. :)

Vinny should reach his incentives very easily....I think they were based on how many games he played...etc.

When everything is said and done.....Vinny will probally pocket close to 5 mil.

Not chump change....by no means. Hopefully we get what we pay for.

I'm glad we didn't sign any of those other bums.

I am among the wrong so far. In 2003, I was all for bringing in Jake Plummer to compete with Carter and Hutchinson. We will never know whether I would have been right about that.

This offseason, I would have given up a 2nd Round pick for Mark Brunell. I gave the Redskins props for pulling the trigger on him. Although I have always liked Testaverde to the highest degree, I felt we sold ourselves short strictly because of his (Test) age. I wanted someone who could knock off Carter, and Testaverde was not that type of QB anymore.

By the way, did I ever get around to saying how wrong I am starting to look? ;)

by the way, how would a kerry collins or a kurt warner look playing with our offensive weapons? i bet they would post excellent numbers as well. i was in favor of bringing in collins but for some reason our management didn't pursue him at all.

Nice research and breakdown, Trublue.

I expected Testaverde would put up solid numbers because of his familiarity with the system and Parcells' way of doing things, but even I'm impressed with back-to-back 300 yard outings.

But yards don't equate to points and the offense is leaving points on the field again just like they did all last year.

That must change.

Dallas can squeak out wins against fumblebum competition like Cleveland, but such play won't hold up against opposition like Minnesota and Philadelphia.

If the Cowboys can find a threat in the backfield and realize they aren't supposed to accumulate penalties akin to the Raiders, they should be fun to watch and a threat to win every week.

I used to kind of like the Dolphins, but this off-season they have done some of the craziest things. I understand some of it was out of desperation due to what Ricky did to them, but why did they give the Eagles a 2nd round pick for Feeley? It is bad enough they are f****ing themselves over, but that crap f****s us over as well. It is kind of like sitting next to a crappy player at the black jack table in Vegas. When he makes mistakes it messes up your hand.

The fins had better at least beat the Bills twice this year. That would help a little :)

Depends. Do you have anything available for an experienced, beer drinking, bar maid chasing, recreational pool playing fool like myself?

I'm willing to work weekends BTW.

my only concerns with vinny are

a) can he stay healthy?

and

b) is it reasonable to expect him to start in 2005?

and if B is a 'no' (as i think) does it set us back next year?

and after sunday maybe i should add

c) will he continue to throw bonehead interceptions?

i will say that overall and i'm very pleased with how vinny has played and i would say that the only other qb on that list that MIGHT have been worth considering is collins.

I'm not concerned with Vinny health or I should say no more than any other QB out there. As for 2005 it is hard to say Vinny I think is looking at this as a 1 year at a time deal, this could be it but who is to say. As for setback at QB should he retire I really don't think so most teams would like to be able to sit a young QB down and let a vet play while the younger guy is able to get a better understanding of the offense. Last but not least the ints no doubt have to come to an end. He played 6 qrts without one but really screwed up in the last 3rd and 4th qrt of the game. I do agree with you on being please for the most part with Vinny
