PHOENIX - Amare Stoudemire added fire to the already intense Phoenix-San Antonio playoff series, calling the Spurs a “dirty team” and accusing Bruce Bowen of intentionally trying to hurt him.

That's cuz they defend like girls. And I mean that in a good way.

I know many don't respect women's b-ball. But when you see them d-up each other, they give them no breathing room. They get all in their grill and then say "Beat me" They use their hands to disrupt the player's dribble. And typically have really good feet so the player can blow past them.

There's no doubt they're good defenders... well Bowen anyway. But this isn't about good defense.

“He kicked me purposely in the back of my Achilles’. I almost came down wrong and he almost caused an injury,” Stoudemire said after Thursday’s practice. “He’s known for doing that. I just hope the NBA and the commissioner take a look at that because it’s definitely a dirty play.”The Suns’ center, selected to the all-NBA first team Thursday, didn’t stop there.

“I think the Spurs are a dirty team,” he said. “I mean, (Manu) Ginobili during the regular season kneed me in the crotch on purpose. I just hope the league takes a look at it and cleans the game up a little bit.”

You're right. If any of that were intentional, then yeah that's dirty. I didn't see the plays, so I can't speak with any authority on it.

But just to play devil's advocate:

"He kicked me purposely in the back of my Achilles’"

How do your purposely kick someone on the back of their achilles? Did their feet get tangled and they fell. Is he being sensitive to the fact that he's coming off a major injury and is wary of getting re-injured?

"Ginobili during the regular season kneed me in the crotch on purpose."

And you're just now complaining about it? I don't know many guys who get kneed and then wait months later to complain about it.

See, you can spin that and it comes across as sour grapes. Getting your butt handed to you and so you want redirect the fact that you're getting schooled by talking about their dirty.

Like you WG, I didn't see the plays or the youtube clip, so I can't comment on the merit of his complaints. But to redirect the devil's advocacy....

I give a little more credence to the "sour grapes" when it's not the first time I've heard the complaints. In addition this complaint came after a 20 point win. Getting your but handed to you or not, it seems less like complaining after your team blows em out.

The guy is teammates with Raja "I'll ring your" Bell. Bell is a filthy player.

a few years ago he threw an elbow at Manu's head, causing Manu to lunge backwards into Barbosa. Barbosa was injured on the play, and everyone blamed Manu for it. Nevermind it was Bell's elbow coming towards his grill that caused Manu to backup in the first place.

Another incident was last year in the playoffs when Bell went WWE on Kobe Bryant. Now, I actually enjoyed the foul, cause I can't stand Kobe, but the fact of the matter is the foul was dirty.

Bell has done this over and over and over.....He belongs on the same list with Mark Madsen, Eduardo Najera, Juwan Howard, and Matt Barnes.

Also, Amare neglected to discuss Barbosa running under Parker while shooting a jumpshot at the end of the 1st quarter. He undercut Parker and caused in to flip in the air and land awkwardly and hard on the floor. Then the Suns proceeded to complain about the call.

Amare is a sniveling, whiny little female reproductive organ.

I am so looking forward to the game tomorrow.

well...i won't be the one to say so...but this series is up for grabs and one could easily surmise that this was simply an effort to position the refs for the rest of the series. knowing they have already lost homecourt advantage, they may be angling for a different advantage. you don't see that as a distinct possibility?

if you watch the clip in question, it's very clear that bowen is looking at the rim, and not at his leg.

as i said...the nba dismissed it, so that's the only opinion that matters to me. it's unfortunate when BS things like this try to undermine what is proving to be a great basketball series.

The point is you didn't consider the NBA the final say on that incident. You just said you still think he got away with one, despite the fact that there was virtually no news regarding that incident.

You're using the same argument I made after Game 5 in Dallas. You didn't like it when I used it... but now you want to put it forth. How convenient.

It's really not that hard to figure out the point, if you'll actually think before typing.

2) Maybe you need to reread the thread here... http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85091&page=8

That thread is full of "snide remarks" from you. And the first time you responded to one of my posts you included one.

Everytime I make an argument you say "what's your point?" or something to that effect. You just said something like that again in this post. I always have to explain myself to you or dumb it down. It gets annoying.

I can debate with multiple Spurs fans and never get one of the "what's your point," "lame argument," nor do I have to continually interpret my posts for them. I guess that's some passive agressive way for you to try to discredit me. I picked up on it. Don't cry because I called you on it, and decided to give you some of your own medicine.

Guilty as charged sir.

Spurs fans remind me of alot of the idiot, fair-weather Cowboys fans that I sit next to when I go to Cowboys games.

The last game I attended, Philly is absolutely destroying us, the score is about 28-10 philly, or something similar and stupid Cowboys fans are spouting off to Eagles fans (who completely took over TS that night) about 5 Champhionships and all the success we had 10 years ago. They would go on to break all kind of TS scoring records against our defense that night, but of course the Cowboys fans had already left a little after the 3rd Quarter started  .

Usually a debate with a Spurs fan degenerates into is "But but but but my team has titles and your's have none".

That's why I don't respect most of them. I will be cheering for my team that has zero titles from now until the rest of my life, I am not so sure you can say that for some of the Spurs fans on this board.

that would be a very valid argument if the spurs werent playing great and well on their way to another title. its one thing to argue about past accomplishments when the team isnt doing good at the present time, but its another thing to boast about past titles as your team is competing for a title that same year

and ill be a spurs fan for the rest of my life, its all ive known, i was born into it. same with the cowboys and my School, the University of Texas (at austin and san antonio, since ive attended both)

I became a fan as a teenager in the late 90s when Don Nelson took over. Cuban buying the team really helped push the team over the top and out from under the terrible 90s teams when they averaged 20 wins a season. I still would have liked to have seen how Mashburn-Jackson-Kidd could have done with a couple of seasons together - or even a full season, as it turned out.

And I welcome anyone to find my "trash talk" from this season. From beginning to end all I cared about was the playoffs, and we all know how that ended.

Speaking of college football pushovers, I'm a UT-Austin grad, but also a North Texas grad. And they play OU this year. In Norman. :whip:

On the bright side - it can't be any worse than the beatdown they suffered in Austin last year. Ouch. And I'm interested to see if their new coach can improve them any.

I got to see that UT-UNT game last season. UNT played better than I thought they would. I was pretty impressed. I think Dodge can bring some pretty exciting football to UNT to say the least. He can't get his son to commit to him (UT strikes again), but he's not gonna be shy. They'll be like Texas Tech east.

i love taking shots at the lame a** mavs, its great. Good for you. Even if it's off topic. It's nice when you can deflect the issue to the "lame *** mavs." Too bad I don't fall for it.

And i said i didnt think either of the "cheap shots" are legitimate. I'd be willing to give Bowen the benefit of the doubt if:
1) it didn't happen all the time, and a pretty substantial amount of players didn't complain about him... (You know the old walks like a duck, talks like a duck thing); or
2) he was an important player on my favorite team.

These all can't be coincidences.

and im also responding to you saying ginobili doesnt have balls since you called him Gina, which you started out of the blue. Out of the blue?? Your nickname for him is Gino. You set yourself up for that one. Would you rather I change it to Gyno?

It doesn't surprise me that Dodge's son isn't going to UNT - if he has a chance to QB at Texas he should take it.

The North Texas offense should be improved enough to compete in the Sun Belt. With a couple of good recruiting years they could be Tech east.

if they don't blow up the team, they still have a good opportunity.

I have faith in Donnie Nelson. But Cuban kind of scares me.

More than anything I think GS was a bad matchup for us. They played us at the best possible time (they were hot, we were in a mini slump). Avery didn't adjust until game four. Dirk was complacent. Except for Howard, Harris and Stackhouse, no one stepped up.

With Harris, Howard and Diop in the lineup we can play defense. But the GS series showed we really need a PG who can dish and drive. Nash would have been nice, but he was/is deficient on defense and we already have Dirk (who is actually adequate) and Jason Terry. Terry is never going to be that. Harris so far hasn't shown it consistently enough (he is only 24, though).

Terry and Damp are basically untradeable, but Cuban/Nelson have worked greater magic in the past. I agree with a local Dallas writer - move Diop and Harris to the starting five, drop Damp and Terry to the bench, and try our best to acquire a true 2 guard who can be a scorer.

The best plan would be to obtain a true point guard, I ask who? Billips will be a free agent this summer, but why would he leave Detroit unless they go through a similar collapse in the next few rounds? Kidd is getting older and lately his stock has risen. Nash, Derron Williams, Chris Paul, etc. are untouchable without dealing Dirk or Howard (if even that).

This team needs a guy with some fire. Howard and Dirk are great players, but too nice. David Robinson was a great player with a nice demeanor and no ring until they drafted a guy who had that fire (Duncan) and he left with two rings. They aren't getting a number one pick anytime soon, and I don't think they need that drastic change. But they need their Michael Irvin to light a fire under their butts (as a player) and push them past themselves. I thought after the Spurs and Suns series last year that they had found it. I don't know where it went.

i fully expect the mavs to have another sick regular season next year, again taking out their postseason frustration on crappy teams and good teams in regular season rotations. The unpredictable part is gonna be their next post season. Its gonna be interesting to see how they rebound next year in the playoffs.

Man, I hope not. I'd much rather them have to push themselves at the end of the year and fly under the radar. I don't think I can go through more of this in next year's playoffs (they're the #1 seed again but look what happened last year!).

But a lot of that depends on 1) what (if any) changes the Mavs make to their roster and 2) what changes the Suns make to their roster. The Suns potentially have three first round picks in the draft - and (if they're knocked out by the Spurs again) what if they get desperate (Nash is 33) and make a blockbuster trade with Stoudamire for KG or Jermaine O'Neal? Why not? - they would upgrade their defense, add a more viable counter to Tim Duncan, and they aren't much older than Stoudamire w/o the knee history.

And then, as you've said, the Spurs have four picks in the draft.

yea...the spurs will probably lose horry, and maybe a couple other vets (barry?)...hopefully they can get at least one solid young contributor out of these picks. any more than that is gravy.

spurs have a history of drafting well though.
