What are the odds of Vinny being our starter next year?.....or even as a backup?

HE may be here next year but only as a back up. It's Henson's job and vinny is keeping the seat warm for him, IMO.

yeah, as a backup. no way BP goes into next year with unproven henson and romo as the top 2 QBs.

The real question is, what if Vinny keeps tear'n it up like he has the first 2 weeks for the remander of the season? What then?

Or what mental stance is BP taking towards his time in Dallas, is he building for the future or trying to do it all for now? What if Vinny convinces BP with his play and endurance this year that he very well could be a viable starting option for 2 more seasons, finishing out the remainder of BP's contract.

I think the future lies with Henson, I'm just wondering when that future actually starts--does it start now or post-BP era?

I would not be suprised to see Vinny return next season and become the backup depending on where Henson is at that stage. You go into next years camp with the ideal of getting Henson ready and if he faulters you look to Romo or Vinny.

I think VT will be back and compete next year as the starter. I always expected him to get 2 years then transition to QB coach.

My guess is he reamisn the starter until he gets some type of injury the way he did with the Jets. When Henson gets on the field chances are he holds the job for a long time... unless he also has a predilection for cheech and chong movies and Mark Stepnoski on speed dial.

If Testeverde finished the year on a positive note, I definitly think he'll be here next year competing for the starting job...probably signed to another incentive based 1 year deal. I think the competition will start out completely open, but I think the staff would like to see Henson win it with positive play. If Testeverde still looks solid next year, and Henson doesn't look ready yet, I don't think they'll throw Henson in for the sake of it, and Testeverde will start initially until poor play or injury.

Those are the thoughts I see the staff thinking. I myself would like to see Henson starting next year from the beginning. Even if I have to swallow some growing pains, I would enjoy watching a young nucleus with potential on offense in Henson, Jones, Lee, Bryant and Witten. Not to mention an improving offensive line with Rogers, Peterman, Johnson and Gurode hopefully all getting better.

He wont be the starter next yr but I could see him on the roster as the backup/psuedo assistant coach though...

Kurt Warner will be a FA next year do we try and sign him to compete with Henson if Warner stays healthy.

He has done while for the Giants so far

Why Vinny knows our system and has done well in it. I personally have nothing aginst Warner but if I'm going to go with a vet then I would at least want a guy who understands the offense we are running and Vinny knows it

It won't be Henson's job until he is the best QB option on the roster...right now he has two players he needs to surpass while getting no snaps during the week.

actually one of the reasons he was placed 3rd was so he'd get the reps...he's the scout team QB vs our defense in practice everyday...

if VT gets injured during a game Romo will obviously play right now, but if VT got hurt and were to miss several games or the season it'd be Henson starting...take it to the bank

If Vinny is physically able and continues his good performance, why not keep him?

I like VT...Now. I wasn't really happy with the signing at 1st. Could it be I was wrong...lol.

Although he will count a lot towards the cap this year if he plays like he is now and reach's incentives. The question I have is...Is VT willing to even come back next year and if so, for how much ? Sooner or later Henson needs to get his shot.

VT and Henson have incentive laden contracts. VT can earn arounf 5 Million (Help Adam if I'm way off) and I think that Henson's contract is shortened if he plays a lot this year. I think that may be another reason that Romo is the 2nd QB.

All in all, the cutting of QC and the good numbers Vinny is putting up will cost us some premo money.

Vinny has not talked about what he may do after this season but it would not suprise me if he did want to return. As for Henson I too would like to see him get his shot but only when he shows he is ready and I do think the coaching staff will have a good feel for when Henson is ready to go, in the meantime keeping Vinny would allow Dallas to have a safety net instead of just relying on hopes and prayers.

Henson's contract shortens if he plays this year or next year. ;)

Nah. We don't need him. There's another relatively cheap ex-Parcells QB who is going to be available next year. Drew Bledsoe. ;) We can cash in our older ex-Parcells QB for a younger one with the same arm.

Thanks Ze...there goes my theory as to why Romo is number 2....Back to the drawing board.
