ROSEMONT, Ill. - Pacman Jones can't seem to stay out of strip clubs or trouble, but NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says it is too soon to say if the Tennessee Titans cornerback violated the terms of his season-long suspension.

DeKalb County police want to question Jones about an incident at an Atlanta-area gentleman's club that ended in gunfire early Monday morning. Investigators do not believe the troubled player was present when shots were fired, but a police report says Jones was involved in a confrontation that may have led to the shooting.

At the NFL player health and safety conference on concussions yesterday, Goodell said it was premature for him to comment on the case.

"I don't have the facts yet," Goodell said.

According to the police report, Jones became angry after another patron at Club Blaze asked an entertainer for a dance and told the man, "I'll kill all y'all in here."

An off-duty cop working as a security guard at the club also told police he overheard Jones say, "I'm going to get my gun" as the Titans' star left the club.

The patron told police that somebody fired gunshots at his vehicle shortly after he left Club Blaze. One of his passengers suffered a minor injury when debris scattered by the shooting hit him in the neck.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was investigating the incident. "We need to know what the facts are," he said.

Jones has not been charged, and DeKalb County police say he is not a suspect in the shooting, but they believe he can provide information about the incident. Police spokesman Michael Payne said an interview has not yet been scheduled.

Jones has had 10 encounters with police and five arrests since he was selected with a first-round pick by the Titans in 2005. Las Vegas police recommended last week that prosecutors charge Jones with felony coercion and misdemeanor threat and battery charges for his role in a February strip club brawl in Las Vegas. That brawl led to a shooting that left manager Tommy Urbanski, a former pro wrestler from Long Island, paralyzed from the waist down.

Jones, who dropped his appeal of the season-long ban last week, promised Goodell that he was going to refocus his life and avoid situations in which he might be compromised.

There were guys I thought would be stars that were just okay but I thought pacman would have been a great cowboy.... in all fairness he was okay when he was on the field but my gosh he is stupid lol

Police report includes threat by cornerback

The sighs and shoulder shrugs and glazed-over eyes say it all.

Ask a Tennessee Titans player about cornerback Pacman Jones, and it's clear he is growing weary of the situation.

"The only thing I'm concerned with is anybody who is here to help this team win," Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck said after Tuesday's minicamp.

The frustration level hit a crescendo this week after Jones allegedly was involved in another scrape with the law, which would make this at least the 12th such incident since Jones has been with the Titans.

The latest incident allegedly took place at a strip club in Atlanta early Monday morning. Later, a shooting outside of the club allegedly involved members of Jones' security detail, according to a police report. The DeKalb County Police Department said Jones is not a suspect but wants to interview him to try to gather facts about the shooting.

A DeKalb police report states that a witness, Darian Haygood, told police he went to an Atlanta strip club to pick up his nephew, and once inside, he asked a woman for a dance. Haygood said a black man approximately 5-foot-8 and 185 pounds with dreadlocks approached him and began acting hostile toward him for speaking with the woman.

Haygood's nephew told his uncle that the man was Pacman Jones of the Tennessee Titans, to which Jones said, "Y'all don't know me. I'll kill all y'all in here," according to police.

Details emerge

Haygood and his nephew began walking toward the door to leave but noticed Jones' security detail following them, the report said. Haygood stopped and notified an off-duty police officer about the confrontation and waited for Jones and his security to leave. Haygood told police Jones got into a black Escalade, a man who was with Jones named Slugga got into a black Grand Prix, and another member of the security detail got into a green Dodge Charger.

Once Jones and his security detail exited, the report said, Haygood and his nephew made their way to the parking lot.

Shortly after, Haygood said, he was at a red light when he heard 8-10 shots, of which seven hit his car, according to police. Haygood said he ducked down and retrieved a gun and returned fire. Haygood then returned to the strip club and alerted an off-duty officer of the incident.

Haygood's nephew said he knew of Jones and one of the members of Jones' security detail but did not see which person fired from which car, the report said.

Ariel Toledo, a spokesperson for the DeKalb County Police Department, said Tuesday a meeting between police and Jones has not been scheduled.

One of Jones' agents, Michael Huyghue, also said a meeting has not been set.

"I think we're all just waiting for the facts to come out," Huyghue said.

Toledo did say police have confirmed that Jones was at the strip club. On Monday, Huyghue said Jones was never there.

Teammates respond

The wrong-place, wrong-time trend continues to rub some of Jones' teammates the wrong way.

"It reflects poorly upon this organization and upon this locker room," defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said. "At a certain point, you start running out of second chances, and I don't know how many more chances he's going to get."

Jones has already been suspended for the season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but it could be reduced to 10 games if certain criteria are met. The suspension also means Jones is not allowed to participate in practices.

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth said he spoke with Jones on Wednesday and that he appeared to be doing fine.

"It's all up to him right now," Haynesworth said. "I hope this doesn't end the hard way and the game gets snatched away from him."

That is ultimately up to Goodell. At an NFL safety and health conference in Rosemont, Ill., on Tuesday, the league commissioner said he was still gathering information about the incident.

"When I met with Pacman last week, he told me he was taking steps to change things in his life, and he seemed sincere about it," Goodell told espn.com. "I hope that's the case. But I don't have the facts yet."

i think the story goes more like this: the girl was supposed to be there with PacMan and his group, not actually a dancer, and someone asked her for a private dance. it isnt known if it was done to be a smartazz comment or if it was an honest mistake, but from that point you can imagine what kind of words were exchanged.

When I try to make sense of all this, I keep coming back to a comment made by a person who knows Jones well. This source explained to me that Jones comes from such a rough background in Atlanta that he just can't grasp how bad all his run-ins with the law appear to the public, regardless of whether Jones is involved in the action.

"Pacman probably has spent his entire life being questioned by police about something that happened around him," the source said. "It doesn't mean he's guilty of the things they ask him about. It just means that he's gotten used to the idea of police coming around looking for information. That's just the way it was when he grew up."

If that's the case, Jones should start realizing how bad it looks when the police come calling. If he can't do that, he'll be wondering what happened to his career in the not-to-distant future.

What's more sad about this whole situation; other players included. The overall quality of play in the league is going to go down by losing these standout players. They're hurting the game. Insane talent is being ripped right from our midsts and some secondrate will be thrown in their spots. But what can be done? Nothing. If he does get reinstated, he'll get another chance. If not with the Titans (who now must be close to being finished with him), with some other team.

The sad truth is some of these guys just can't escape their upbringing.

I remember a Mike Tyson interview once where he recalled after becoming the youngest heavyweight champ in history, he left Cus D'Amato and the Catskill mountains and returnd to Brownsville Brooklyn, where he proceeded to participate in a mugging with a buddy of his. He said he didn't need the cash of course, just the way he was brought up. Just did it for kicks, wasn't a big deal to him.

Seriously, no one is that stupid. He'll realize that without NFL money he can't have an entourage, money and the gangsta lifestyle, and he'll be just another pretty face, so he'll clean up his act.
