NFL Cut Down Dates

This year it seems like the cut down dates are really close together.

Camp Rosters allow 85 players.

The cut down to 75 players is August 28th (http://cowboyszone.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=285&day=2007-8-28&c=1). That means for basically a month the teams will run with the full 85 if they wish.

Just 4 days later on September 1st (http://cowboyszone.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=286&day=2007-9-1&c=1) is the cutdown from 75 to 53. That means 22 more players in 4 days.

The season begins 5 days later on September 6th.

But seriously, just wait until players start dropping like flies. The extra bodies will be needed, esp on the line. And I say bring in as many potential backups for Ferguson as possible. I'm a little worried about that spot.

Thats alot of evaluation going on in that last week. 22 players? they are going to have to plan on cutting a couple of guys after each full day of practice. Maybe thats all the time they need. Or just enough time to make a Swinton over Dantzler type of mistake.

Or just enough time to make a Swinton over Dantzler type of mistake.I will venture a guess that more teams than not cut beyond the 75 on the 28th of August and go into that last pre-season game with a pretty good idea of their final 53. I think I'd cut down to at least 65 on that 1st cut down.

I really doubt (m)any coaches want to play too many guys that they are keeping in that last preseason game. They already know most of the turk list by then anyway.

Let's be honest, they know all but probably 10-15 spots already. By halfway through the preseason, they probably know all but 5-6.

I can probably get within 2 or 3 of our final 53 right now as long as injuries do not interrupt. I just find it amazing that there are only 2 dates and so close together.

I suspect the teams need the camp fodder for one thing. And it gives players on the margin a longer time to make the team (goes the other way, too). Money is always important.
