Was working in Tulsa yesterday and saw it. Kind of weird, looks like some sort of mutant cockroach.

It is an alien just like in that one episode of The X-files.

It looks somewhat similar to a toe biter, but methinks those are antennea and not pinchers. Cool bug though. I'd eat it for a buck.

It's a tree borer. They're very common around here in west central Texas as they attack mesquite trees after the tree limbs are dead and probably attack fruit trees that are alive as many borers do. They bore holes in trees and lay their eggs in the holes and the larve hatch out and eat their way around the inside of the dead limbs. When burning logs pop, it is often the steam pressure generated by the cooked larve in their holes that explosively decompresses.

And city folk say country folk got nothing to entertain them - ha.

Watching grass grow is boring but watching weeds grow at breakneck speeds is EXCITING!

Yep... exactly what it is...

We had those darn things take out an entire cord of wood when I was a boy in Wichita Falls...

You could hear the larvae nawing away... it was pretty weird...
