FYI: I don't know if it'll help any other Directv subscribers, but they also subtract $10/month off my bill for being a Bellsouth Internet Access customer.

What specific language did you use? I have spoken to 3 people at DirecTV (using the phone # from the other thread) and they WOULD NOT BUDGE! I even mentioned that I know of others who got a discount. They acted like they had no idea what I was talking about and also said that as a returning customer, I already have the best possible deal. But I know that's bull.

I got a year of free SuperFan (complained about Sunday Ticket price rising).
I thought SuperFan was basically free for all DTV customers. Around draft time, I saw an offering for new subscribers that included SuperFan. As such, I called to make sure that I as a loyal customer would be receiving the same and was assured that I would.
I guess the rep could have added it at the time without actually saying so; but I was given the impression that it was an automatic offering for returning subscribers along with those new subscribers who accepted the limited time offer.

I called hoping to get it for free and the rep said I already had it for free. ??? I'm a subscriber since 2000.

Well, I have had ST since the late 90's and when I added Superfan last year, they made me pay 100 bucks for it.
And this summer, when I got my first installment, I was billed separately for both.
But they do play fast and loose with the "rules" there. Other long time subscribers could have been getting SF for free, and now you've made me ticked off at them all over again. :D

A month or so ago when I got my HDTV I wanted the DVR for free. I found a Dish Network offer for a free one with new service. I then called DTV and asked what discount they would give me on the HDR, they said only minimal discount was available. I went through a couple people before I said send me to the dept to disconnect my service. Instant free DVR and Sunday Ticket.

We'll after two attempts all i recieved was 10 bucks off for 12 months, and 2 free months of showtime. I'll call back in 2 weeks to see if i can get more, but they seemed determined not to give discounts on football packages. Last year seemed much easier in regards to get more things for free.

Didn't work. They didn't even care about offers from Dish Network for the free HD DVR. They gave me the traditional 100 bucks that you get credited every six months for a free upgrade and that was it. What crap.
$199 for an HD DVR upgrade.

It's not really. Chances are you'll have to call them anyways.
I had no idea we were supposed to get $100 credit or free upgrade every 6 months. So, does that mean they owe me a few hundred in credits since I never received them, and they refused to give me any upgrades (even though they promised I'd get them for free once they were available).

They told me that all customers in good standing are eligible for a free upgrade every 6 months and that is up to $100.

Well, I never received a call as ChldsPlay suggested, so I called them back and referenced the email with the email reference number. They said they would have to send me to the "Win Back Department"
I asked for a number so I could give you guys, but they said there is no outside number and they have to forward me internally.
Anyways. He read the history that I had found a deal for an HD DVR for free from Dish Network (which is the truth). He gave me that for free.
I was also told on the phone that I would now receive my NFL games on the Sunday Ticket in HD with my $9.99 fee that I pay now for HD. I asked specifically on the phone if I get the NFL Sunday Ticket in HD and she said "Yes" (that is also the truth as I didn't know you needed Superfan to get the games in HD). He apologized and gave me the Super Fan package for free so that I would get my games in HD.
Woohoo!!!

And I called on the 6 month credit/upgrade and the lady said yes, customers are able to receive those...then proceeded to tell me you have to pay for them. It was just a very confusing conversation. I'm not sure she know what I was saying. I hate Directv customer service.

Hmm. I think what she meant to tell you is that you have to pay Shipping and Handling no matter what. So there is still something to pay. Originally before I did all of this I was just going to have my dish upgraded and get an HD receiver. Well that package was $99 and I had to pay nothing other than $19.95 S&H + tax. Came out to like 21.20 or something. Anyways, yes you still have to pay something.
Also, if you get an upgrade over $100 you have to pay the difference.

Here is my recent activity:
08/09/2007 $19.95 Delivery and Handling - Cancelled Order $-19.95 $-1.20
08/06/2007 NFL SUNDAY TICKET Superfan - Charge $0.00 $0.00
08/06/2007 $19.95 Delivery and Handling - Charge $19.95 $1.20
07/30/2007 $19.95 Delivery and Handling - Charge $19.95 $1.20
07/30/2007 We appreciate your loyalty. - Charge $0.00 $0.00
The first 19.95 was for shipping on my original order for just a receiver. I had that cancelled when I got my HD DVR for free and was charged an additional 19.95. I had to then email twice to get that removed.
Yesterday a Customer Service Representative called me and asked if that charge was taken care of and if there was anything else that they could do for me. It was pretty nice.

It wasn't the shipping and handling they were wanting to charge, it was the $99. And in the case of the HD-DVD $299.
I called back and talked to someone else. Got my normal receiver upgraded to an HD one, and my current HD-DVR will be replaced with the HR-21 when it comes out in November. Also asked about discounts for phone service and whatnot and she told me I would receiver $10 off for a year, plus free HD and DVR service for a year. I got her name too in case they try and screw me like they have in the past by "misplacing" their notes from the call.

Very nice. It sounds like what I tried to do, but you were advantageous to ask a couple other things. I stopped after the free Superfan and the HD-DVR. I figure I can call again another time.
