So NYC is trying to pass legislation that would make it illegal for a person to shoot photos on city streets without a permit/$1,000,000 in insurance. I'm an avid photographer and I've been stopped more times than I can count, but in those cases I was shooting bridges/tunnels/etc..... a pain in the butt, but understandable.
This new law is fascism at its finest, it gives the governement the right to seize your equipment and take you to jail for no clear reason other than 'because we said so'.... It's the Patriot Act in a new form and it's complete and utter crap.
Anyway, there's a rally tomorrow in Union Square, there are a few online petitions you can sign if you disagree with this.... while it may seem like no big deal, I swear it's just another way for Big Brother to mess with your personal freedom and it's got to stop....

If you think this is a load of crap, check out what the NYPD did last month on the LES.... it's illegal to chain your bike to a pole/parking meter/etc, so they went through the streets at night and started cutting locks, hauling dozens of bikes to the impound lot...... again, sounds like a 'who cares?' kinda thing, but it isn't, especially if you depend on your bike to get around. I mean, is it really necessary to show the public who's boss by taking away their bikes and cameras?
Stolen from another forum, but I thought it was important enough to post here.
