Former USC great, NFL flop, and not-that-bad Arena Football star Todd Marinovich was arrested this weekend after cops say he was hiding almost a gram of methamphetamine, a syringe and a spoon in his guitar case.

According to sources, Marinovich was skateboarding near the Newport Pier in Orange County -- where boarding is strictly prohibited -- when police approached him. Cops say a frightened Marinovich then took off, leading them on a short chase. Cops caught up with the former QB, who was never much of a scrambler, hiding in a carport six blocks away.

Todd has nine prior drug-related cases in Orange County, and was on probation for a previous drug conviction.

Marinovich appeared in a Newport Beach court yesterday, where he plead not guilty to three misdemeanor charges. He will remain in custody until the Sept. 6 hearing.

Age and the drug culture combined. I think he was drafted in 1983, correct?

That would make him 46 ish.

It always seem to me that Todd's Dad was more interested in him being a QB and making it to the Pros than what Todd himself wanted.

A 46-year-old skateboarder trying to outrun the police. Bound to end up on some cop or you-gotta-see-this broadcast someday.

. . . hiding in a carport six blocks away.

I'm going to guess that Todd probably wasn't very good at hide-n-seek when he was younger.

can't help but feel sorry for the poor bastid. another wasted talent. this guy had it all and blew it all away. his dad had a lot to do with him going bonkers IMO. he never even tasted a soda before he was drafted in the 1st round (1990? or 91 which makes him 37 or 38

If I'm not mistaken this is the second time that he's been busted with drugs because he was skateboarding in a restricted area.

If true...Wow. Dumb.

Find a place to skateboard that's legal.

Why the hell is a 38-yo skateboarding? A vain quest for lost youth?

Same reason guys in their 50's and 60's still surf, it is fun.

If Jerry was a good GM, he would have signed him as the starter instead of Romo. Jerry is a loser. :bang2:

Isn't Tony hawk about the same age? If not, I'm sure he is not that much younger. the only difference is Tony still gets paid a lot of money to ride a skateboard

edit: I just googled it and he is 39.

He was born July 4, 1969. My math says he's 38, so does Wikipedia's math.

FORMER NFL QUARTERBACK ARRESTED WITH METH
Todd Marinovich, the one-time first-round pick of the Raiders, reportedly has been arrested (http://www.tmz.com/2007/08/29/cops-former-football-star-tucked-drugs-and-ran/) on charges that he had a gram of methamphetamine, a syringe, and a spoon in his guitar case.
Marinovich, who is 38 years old, was skateboarding (http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm#) near the Newport Pier in Orange County, California -- making him the oldest known person to ride a skateboard. When police approached him (since skateboarding is not permitted in that area), Marinovich ran away.
The authorities found him hiding in a carport six blocks away.
Marinovich has nine prior drug incidents in Orange County, and currently is on probation for a prior conviction. He will remain in custody until a September 6 hearing.
He spent two years with the L.A. Raiders -- 1991 and 1992 -- and he completed 104 of 205 passes for 1,345 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He actually started a playoff game (a 10-6 loss to the Chiefs) as a rookie. He threw four interceptions that day, and yet somehow his team only lost by four points.
By the way, the next quarterback (http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm#) selected after Marinovich in the 1991 draft (http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?season=1991) was a guy named Brett Favre. You might have heard of him.

Ouch. That pick didn't exactly turn out well for the Falcons either. Despite his career with the Packers.

few more tidbits about marinovich.....

In 1990 after being sacked by a UCLA defensive lineman Marinovich flipped him off after the lineman offered to help him off the ground.
Todd Marinovich defeats Tommy Maddox in the 1990 UCLA vs. USC game 45-42.
In the 1990 match-up against Notre Dame, Todd Marinovich playfully shoved a Notre Dame defensive lineman while celebrating a touchdown, then gave the finger to the image of "Touchdown " on the Theodore Hesburgh Memorial Library.
In Marinovich’s final season at USC, the Trojans entered a game in late September against the University of Washington Huskies ranked #5 in the country. Following a 31-0 beating from Washington’s “Purple Reign” defense, Marinovich was quoted as saying, “All I saw was purple. No jerseys, no numbers, just purple. I thought I was at a Prince concert.” Marinovich entered the game as a Heisman Trophy candidate, but his performance that day effectively ended his Heisman hopes.
Upon his departure from the Trojans, Marinovich was quoted as saying, "Well, I may not be the best quarterback ever to don the Trojan uniform, but there's little doubt I was the prettiest and the one who used them (i.e., "trojans") the most."
