1. Night of the Living Dead (original)
2. Shaun of the Dead...dogs can't look up
3. Return of the Living Dead...send more paramedics
4. 28 Days Later...though it technically isn't a zombie movie
5. Dead Alive

Which one?
The original which would be #6 on my list or the new one which was okay?

I was talking about the new one. For some reason, every time it's on TV I have to watch it.

The new one pales in comparison to the original.
All the early Romero movies had a political or social message hidden beneath the surface.
The 78 version spoke about mindless consumerism as much as flesh eating zombies...plus a zombie gets a bad hair cut from a chopper blade too.

Of the new Romero versions I like Land of the Dead better...I love Hopper as a bad guy, plus the story was about 50/50 from the zombie point of view.

All good ones.
I liked Night of the Comet. Like 28 Days Later, they are not truly zombies, but it was a funny parody of the numerous lesser zombie movies that were out there.

Can't remember what all the movie was about, but Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one that used to scare the crap out of me.

Loved that movie when I was a kid.

I liked Resident evil... I'll agree with your top 5 to an extent I'd have RE in there somewhere though

Though not really zombies in the truest sense, The Omega Man deserves consideration.
If that doesn't count, Shaun of the Dead gets my vote.

There used to be a TV show starring Darren McGavin called "The Nightstalker." It deserves a mention.

I don't love any of the Zombie movies, per say but I guess if I had to pick one, it would be Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town. Since I don't really like Zombie movies, the whole Chopper Chicks are more appealing. :D
After that, I would probably go a little left and say that I like Charleton Heston in The Omega Man. I don't know if you could say they were living dead but they were definatly Zombies. After that, I'd probably go with The Chronicals of Riddick. The Furyans are probably not typically associated with Zombies but they are Living Dead and so, I'd list them. After that, I'd probably go with Resident Evil and the sequales.

That is where I learned that you put salt in a mummies mouth and sew it shut to stop him. At least that is what I think I remember. I was a bit scared while watching it since I was young kid.

Used to love that show...
The series remake a couple of years back didn't make it but I think you can catch them on Sci-Fi Channel...
They are releasing the originals onto DVD from what I have read...

I loved that show, and had high hopes for the remake after they CG'd McGavin into the news room in the pilot...it wasn't bad and deserved a full season.

They're releasing a third version of The Omega Man later this year, starring Will Smith. It's called I Am Legend (the original story name, written by Richard Matheson). There is also an old black and white version with Vincent Price called The Last Man on Earth. I really enjoyed the book, so I'm hoping this latest one will be closer to the original story (but I'm not holding my breath for that).

This seems to be an endless debate, and one my opinion differs on. I was pleasantly surprised by the remake, and sight unseen, bought the original version on DVD soon after. I ended up giving it away to a family member. I understand the critique on consumerism, but the make-up effects and cheesy music really prevent me from getting into the story. As a lot of "classic" horror movies from the 70s decade, it comes across now as extremely dated.
I was also disappointed because the first Romero movie is one of my favorite horror movies. He returned to form with Day of the Dead. Land of the Dead wasn't bad, either.

Psst, let me tell you a secret...back in the 60's and 70's they didn't have CG...so one might want to take that into context.
When you grow up on Star Wars and LOTR as a 24 year old you get a different view than those of us that remember rocketships where you can see the string, that we saw as a kid.
I actually enjoy the contrast of it...I mean, would The Evil Dead be as good if it was a pioneer in special effects? I think not.

Thanks for the history lesson.
Birth of Nation I'm sure was groundbreaking at the time, but its age doesn't make it one of the best epic films ever made. Neither does DotD get a free pass because it was made 30 plus years ago. Horror is one of the few "action" genres that still doesn't require a great deal of computer generated effects to get the point across. What CGI did Saw use?
Your argument also deflects the fact that there were plenty of horror and zombie movies released before and after the original DotD release without the use of CGI.
And without the cheesy music. I may not have been around in the 70s, but I know they had decent composers even back then.
Edit: Re-reading your post, I'm really perplexed by your underhanded, condescending tone. I guess my criticism of DotD and 70s horror unintentionally struck a nerve. This whole topic is subjective anyways, but I enjoy debating things like this (otherwise, why would I post on a Cowboys board?). But if it's going to keep returning to the argument that "I'm older than you, you're young and naive and don't know what you're talking about" then I don't know what point there is of continuing this discussion any further, since neither we nor other readers would benefit.

Great movie, but if you are true zombie movie fan then there is no way.
Dawn of the Dead the original beats them all.
