Chicago Bears 2008 Draft
• Pick No. 14: Chicago Bears select Chris Williams, T, Vanderbilt
Pro analysis: The Bears begin a needed overhaul of their offensive line by picking Williams. A pure left tackle, he will probably cause John Tait to move over to the right side now that Fred Miller has been jettisoned. The question now is, whom will Williams protect? Rex Grossman re-upped for one year. Does he shine behind an upgraded line after getting battered last year, or will the Bears try to snag Chad Henne or Joe Flacco later in the day?
College analysis: Chris Williams started his Vanderbilt career as a guard before transitioning to tackle in his final two seasons. Williams was an anchor on the left side, using his tremendous size to a first-team selection by SEC coaches. He was the first Commodores offensive lineman since Will Wolford to accomplish that feat. The Bears would be quite happy if Williams has the same career as Wolford.
• Pick No. 44: Chicago Bears select Matt Forte', RB, Tulane
Pro analysis: The Bears passed on Rashard Mendenhall in the first round, but Cedric Benson may have some competition in Forte', who tore up Conference USA. Chicago obviously views RB help more important than QB assitance, as Chad Henne and Brian Brohm wait for their names to be called.
