Default Inside linebacker?

I am worried about this position..

What if Carter doesn't pan out?

On top of that big ?, we have 0 depth at the position if either Carter or Lee get hurt.

I highly doubt Kuechly is a reliable option in round 1 unless Carter is moving to OLB.

What say you?

Orie Lemon will probably get every chance to make the active roster and win the backup spot at both ILB spots.

I do not question his instincts, though...

I figure we'll look to add depth in day three of the draft and bring in insurance via FA at the vet min. All this translates as Carter HAS to work out.

Sign Larry Grant this offseason, is only 26 and played very well for San Fran when Willis was out via injury

Im sure we bring in some FA and lower draft day backers to compete. It's not a position that warrants a 1st round pick right now.

I don't think this team can afford to spend a early (1st, 2nd or 3rd) round pick on an ILB.

I think picking up a veteran is probably the best move.

According to some things written recently ILB future may be a legitimate worry.

Carter has to work and it is a legit concern IMO. I don't think that Carter can work at the strong side OLB. He would have to put on a good 20 lbs and still keep his agility.

I think we should move on without B James and Brooking. Replace those two guys with 1 solid veteran ILB.

Then, in Day 3 of the Draft take one more ILB to compete against O Lemon.

Agreed, I think Lemon has a chance to stick (if not for Brooking, I think he'd have made it this year), but later in the draft and FA is probably where this is addressed.

The staff thinks Carter was worthy of a 1st rounder, like Sean Lee, so really he is plan 1, 2 and 3.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

5th rd take you pick we need a back up ILB

Tank Carder, ILB, TCU
Carmen Messina, ILB, New Mexico
J.K. Schaffer, ILB, Cincinnati
Chris Marve, ILB, Vanderbilt

but I could see us picking one up in FA
