Cowboys had the 22nd pick in the 1st round of the 1999 draft. They traded up 2 spots to #20 to get Ekuban, the last 1st-round DE left on their board, the fastest DE in the draft, the most athletic, he who broke the Tar Heels record for stops behind the line, he who supposedly was blazing fast around the end and was envisioned to become The Next Great DE in Cowboys History. The trade was with Seattle...the #20 pick was "from New England via Seattle".
"When Ekuban was still on the board at No. 20, Dallas opted not to risk waiting until it's No. 22 pick, but to trade up with Seattle to ensure he was available. They surrendered only that fifth-round pick that they got from Carolina earlier this week when they opted not to match the offer for restricted free agent receiver Patrick Jeffers."
Ekuban actually made the PFW all-rookie team ha ha.
