Default Can Ernie Simms play safety?

Does anyone know? He seems like he has the speed and the instincts. Do you think RR has considered the idea?

Sometimes we think a little too much.

What's so absurd about my idea? Obviously I don't mean now because he is injured. I mean for next year he is a under sized LB with speed and seems to have an instinct for the ball. Maybe he competes with church and Johnson

Not that crazy. He has the speed and can certainly hit and play near the LOS. The question is does he have the hips and technique to cover. There have been 6-4 and 6-5 safeties to play. Randy Hughes was 6-4 and I think he would have been an All Pro player if he'd not been injured. I actually think Carter could play S if he dropped 10 or so. Never going to happen though.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

OP, this isn't a dumb topic. But I think the idea was considered and discarded. I'm sort of surprised they haven't tried him in that role in some packages. It seems like the kind of thing RR would do. It might just be the learning curve for him at ILB is steep enough.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

No dice. We need Sims and Albright at ILB. And if he is playing safety, then most likely that means that Dan Connor is on the field. You might as well stand aside and let them dance right into the endzone.

Rob wanted to draft him and convert him to safety. So, yes, RR has considered the idea.

Yes, RR said that he tried to get Al to draft him as a safety while RR was at Oakland.

Oh, that's right. It was Ryan when he was in Oakland.

I thought it was Dallas that considered that idea, but anyway, I remember reading that someone associated with the team did.
