Default Matt Johnson will return to practice next week

IRVING — Cowboys rookie safety Matt Johnson, who is on the reserve/injured returnable list, was eligible to practice Friday for the first time but said he only worked on the side.

Johnson, who hasn’t played this season because he’s battled hamstring injuries all year, said he plans to return to practice next week if the Cowboys win Sunday night and advance to the playoffs.

“I’ve felt great for three or four weeks now,” Johnson said.

Johnson said he feels like he’s in better shape, stronger and “more explosive” than when he arrived after being drafted out of Eastern Washington.

Dez Bryant, Receiver. A man who's season is over. Gentlemen, the Cowboy's staff can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first super human receiver.
Dez Bryant will be that man. Better than he was before. Better.... Stronger..... Faster......

One of the things I really hoped for was to see both Church and M Johnson play more snaps this season.

If either guy works out, it would save us at the minimum a high draft pick next year.

Church did work out.
It'll now depend on his recovery if we can count on him in 2013.

I meant to say I was hoping to see a larger sample size from Church.

I guess it's a good sign the staff extended him post-injury. They must feel very positive about him (and his injury).

I've never understood the hate for Johnson. He might be a little snake bit with injuries but the poor guy has never got a break. Hopefully he will be healthy for training camp because I would really like to see him on the field.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

How could anyone not understand the hate? We drafted him and he never played a snap. Ware played through whatever he was going through, Witten had a bleeding spleen, Dez Bryant played with a broken finger, Felix Jones found the field despite his inability to change a direction... etc etc.

He should have found a way, just like Witten when doctors told him no.

He had a bad hammy, you can't play safety with a bad hammy. He would be burned more than Danny McCray.

I don't necessarily see anyone "Hating" on Johnson. There's frustration with him and a few jokes made at his expense, but I don't see any "hate".

I think every cowboys fan hopes he's the next Cliff Harris.

What I do remember reading about M Johnson was that the defensive coaches were excited about his ability back there in the limited practices he was avilable.

It would be great to see Church and Johnson being ready and able for TC next year.

But regardless, I think we'll probably end up spending a Day 3 pick on another Safety, if only for depth - which isn't a bad idea, imo.
