Opinion DC.COM : breaking down Starters at Offensive Tackle

Article:

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/ar...fensive-Tackle

Teaser:

Quote:
If Smith gets in trouble his foot work can get him out of trouble but it is his power that can put him back in position. Free doesn’t have that upper body power nor in the lower as well. If Free misses with his punch, he has trouble resetting his hands, then sitting down on his man. When Free really gets in trouble is when he plays too tall and upright. There were too many times this past season where smaller rushers were able to what scouts like to say “Walk the dog” back into Romo. The Browns game was a prime example, when Jabaal Sheard at 255 pounds played inside on him several times and was able to carry him into the backfield. It one thing to have to deal with a smaller rusher’s speed but when they are able to carry you into the quarterback, then there are problems.

I was reading something somewhere by some guy that said if we could sign Jake Long or Denver's LT, we could move Smith back to RT. I'd feel more comfortable spending money on a tackle and looking at the interior through the draft.

Jake Long has had some struggles with injuries. If he didn't have some issues, then Miami would probably re-sign him.

Clady, Denver's LT, will get Franchised.

I agree that I'd rather have a vet tackle, but Long and Clady aren't great options.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the only OL we sign is a swing tackle, we have Parnell at RT next year, and we go OG/C in the 3rd or 4th round.

Long and Clady aren't great options? Why?

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

Long has been coasting on his rep the last few years. Several nagging injuries are at least part of the reason.

He is NOW nowhere what he was 4 years ago

Because of Long's injury history and the fact that Clady is not going to get out of Denver.
