Default 1st BAT Mock 2013

It's early folks and players are going to rise and fall but here's my first mock:

1st OG Chance Warmack - 6'2 330 5.3 Alabama
*Only time I advocated an OL in first round was Iupati

2nd DL Margus Hunt - 6'8 280 4.6 SMU
*Trade down to around 50 for another 3rd

3rd FS/CB David Amerson - 6'2 195 4.5 NC State

3rd OL Menelick Watson - 6'5 320 5.0 FSU

4th OLB/DE Jelani Jenkins - 6'0 240 4.5 Florida

5th RB/KR Kenjon Barner - 5'9 190 4.3 Oregon

6th SS/OLB Cooper Taylor - 6'4 230 4.4 Richmond

7th DE Quanterus Smith - 6'5 250 4.7 Western Kentucky

*UFA: SS Ray Ray Armstrong - 6'3 230 4.6 Miami

Like a lot of the players but a few things..we don't have a 7th and Jelani Jenkins is a true OLB not an OLB/DE. You might be thinking of Florida State's Brandon Jenkins ? Jelani Jenkins (Floirda Gator) would be a pretty good LB for Kiffin's scheme.

No 7th, no problem. Just move QSmith to UFA. He's hurt and likely not drafted anyway.

And I envision Jelani Jenkins to be used in similar fashion that Bruce Irvin is used with Seattle. He is an OLB but he can also really rush the passer. A very good ST player too. But if he can beat out the competition for the strongside LB spot than more power to him. But he is coming off a foot injury that will prevent him from being competitive early for starter's spot.

Overall, I like it.

1st OG Chance Warmack - 6'2 330 5.3 Alabama
Cannot go wrong with this player.

2nd DL Margus Hunt - 6'8 280 4.6 SMU
*Trade down to around 50 for another 3rd
You're going to need to trade down quite a bit more to get an extra 3rd.
Hunt has some upside but there are going to be many really talented and more proven players in the 2nd round. Hunt might have gotten pushed up due to playing against a true-Freshman RT in the final game of the season.

3rd FS/CB David Amerson - 6'2 195 4.5 NC State
I'm intrigued by move this player to Safety. Definitely a ballhawk.

3rd OL Menelick Watson - 6'5 320 5.0 FSU
This is a terrific player, IMO. I don't think he will be available in the 3rd. The bonus is that he can probably play OG in addition to OT.

4th OLB/DE Jelani Jenkins - 6'0 240 4.5 Florida
Good OLB prospect. He could get opportunities to blitz; however, I don't see him lining up at DE. Bruce Irvin had borderline size at DE and he is 6'2-1/2, and now 250.

5th RB/KR Kenjon Barner - 5'9 190 4.3 Oregon
Great pick if available.

6th SS/OLB Cooper Taylor - 6'4 230 4.4 Richmond
Another intriguing conversion player. Perfect size/speed to play LB in the Kiffin scheme.

7th DE Quanterus Smith - 6'5 250 4.7 Western Kentucky
Terrific player. You will need to make a small trade to acquire a 7th.

*UFA: SS Ray Ray Armstrong - 6'3 230 4.6 Miami
Another player that I think could convert to LB in the Kiffin scheme.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Half of the population has below average intelligence.

I appreciate the feedback as always xwalker. Right now Hunt's star is on the rise, while Watson's is rising. Both will be picked higher than their experience & production warrant when it is all said and done. Perhaps after the combine and scouts go back to tape, we can flip the Hunt and Watson picks.

Another option instead of Hunt in the 2nd is Missouri Southern DT Brandon Williams (6'2 340 5.0). Williams is huge but quick for size and is always making plays in the opponent's back field, forcing fumbles (5), TFL (16.5) and sacks (8) in 2012. Small school experience but consistent - 3 straight AFCA All American honors. And he had even better numbers in 2010.

And Amerson is without question the best ballhawk in the draft. And even if he cannot move to FS immediately, he can definitely help the team as another Tampa 2 corner.

Same with Cooper and Armstrong. If they cannot transition to SLB right away, they could still compete for reps as safeties, especially with the Cowboys' recent injury history in the secondary. Both bring size and physicality necessary for a Tampa 2 safety.

Do not expect Jenkins to be an every down DE. But even if he does not pan out as a pass rush specialist he is still a quality talent at SLB. If not for his foot injury he would not be available so deep in this draft. The guy is another playmaker who makes plays on D and ST.
