Default BLOG: Batiste-Hoyte Skirmish update

Matt Mosley just called this in...

Guard DeAnthony Batiste and rookie linebacker Oliver Hoyte just had a skirmish during special teams drills. They went after it pretty good. Decision goes to Hoyte, the subject of the wildly popular 2-Minute Drill segment we have on this blog. Hoyte's helmet was ripped off in the brawl.

Mosley also reports that Parcells is particularly animated today. Details to come.

2-Minute Drill with LB Oliver Hoyte

2-minute drill
LB Oliver Hoyte
6-3, 250, free-agent rookie out of N.C. State
Avid Monopoly player

When did you start playing Monopoly?

I started playing a lot when I was a senior in high school.

Why do you like it so much?

Because I’m a schemer. I love buying up all that property.

And you kept playing in college?

Oh yeah. I bet I played six or seven hours a week. We’d play at least three or four games each night.

Has Monopoly always been a popular pastime for N.C. State players?

I just know it was for us.

Did you play different versions of the game?

Yeah, we started playing NFL Monopoly in college. You could buy up stadiums. I remember owning Tampa Bay and Oakland’s stadiums the year they went to the Super Bowl.

Were you the best Monopoly player on the team?

I probably won about 85 to 90 percent of the time.

Do you guys make up some of your own rules?

Yes, we definitely tweaked a few rules. If you didn’t ask the banker for your $200 when you passed “Go,” you didn’t get it. We also had a free parking spot area where you could make extra money.

Wouldn’t that be an NCAA violation?

[Laughing] I hope not.

Have you found anyone in camp to play Monopoly with?
No, I’m gonna try to make the team first.

Matt Mosley

I'm hoping he does make the team. Ever since reading all the hype about him during the speculation of him sigining with us, I've been high on the guy. Hopefully he has enough football speed (as opposed to that slow Parhamish 40 time) to couple with his good instincts and power.

I view him as a darkhorse to actually make the team if we pawn off our inside linebacker depth.

Agreed. Like everyone else, I'm betting Shanle is gone, and to me that leaves Fowler to beat. Hoyte better be able to play tough against the run because that's why Parcells likes him.

These 8 guys are locks.

Ware
Ayodele
James
Ellis
Burnett
Carpenter
Boiman
Singleton

One or two of these guys will make it.

Fowler
Glymph
Hoyte

Hoyte's gonna have a tough time even with Shanle gone.
