The Redskins' counter play (Excerpt From DMN)

This is Washington's signature play. RB Clinton Portis takes a false step to the left or right, depending on the direction of the play, and waits for a pulling tackle and guard to open up a big hole for him. The Cowboys are a fast, aggressive defense, especially at linebacker, and these plays are designed to take advantage of those types of defenses.

Nice analysis AF. Very well done. No reason to zone much for the Skins... They aren't likely to try too many deep passes. I think Newman can handle either WR without any problem.

Zone is still going to be played. The Redskins are not likely to be matched up one on one very well.

We won't blitz a lot when Portis is in the game. It would be a big play waiting to happen. We need to control the LOS against them and not over pursue.

Yes, the Skins' offense is also about fumbles, interceptions, sacks, and dropped balls by the wideouts.

Thanks! I think the Skins will take some shots deep to try and draw a PI flag. Yes, Newman can handle any of their WRs one on one. That's why I would line him up on the weak side. That way Hunter can cover the strong side with deep help feom Dixon/Scott. So there will be quite a bit of zoning going on there. Also, with Newman playing man-up, we can cheat R. Williams up in the box, and depending where we position him, we can free up the weakside linebacker to drop back in space to cover the open field undereath Newman. Of course this is not what we'll see on every play, but I anticipate this will be the base defense that Dallas implements, especially on sure running downs.
