Default Cleveland Browns Picks

Rd 1 - 003 - Joe Thomas

Position:T
Class:Sr
School:Wisconsin
Ht., Wt.:6-6.5, 311
40 Time:
5.03

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter who began his college career at defensive end. All-Conference selection every season since his sophomore campaign.

POSITIVES: Tremendous pass-blocking left tackle who does a terrific job protecting the blind side. Patient, makes exceptional use of angles and body positioning. Bends his knees, gets leverage on opponents and displays quickness in all aspects of his game.

NEGATIVES: Average skills blocking in motion. Not a finisher and must improve his run-blocking strength.

ANALYSIS: After a slow start to his senior campaign when he was rebounding from knee surgery performed, Thomas looked in fine form at the end of the year. One of the best pass protectors to come around in a long time and has the growth potential to improve as a run-blocker.

Cleveland trades their Second round pick (#36) and their 1st round pick in 2008 for the Dallas Cowboys first round pick this year (#22)

Rd 1 - 0022 - (from Dallas) Brady Quinn QB, Notre Dame

BIOGRAPHY: Four-year starter who posted 61.9%/3,426/37/7 as a senior. Junior totals included a career-high 3,919 passing yards, a Notre Dame single-season record.

POSITIVES: Nice-sized, strong-armed pocket passer with a great amount of upside. Patient, calm under pressure and buys time for receivers. Gets outside the pocket to give himself a better view of the field. Has a quick, over-the-top delivery.

NEGATIVES: At times stares the primary target down from the get-go. Not averse to forcing the throw into coverage. Makes some head-scratching decisions at times. Not an elusive quarterback who escapes the rush. Marginally accurate throwing on the move.

ANALYSIS: Possessing the size, arm strength and intangibles to be a starter at the next level, Quinn is an incredibly productive college quarterback who translates well to the next level. Comes off a poor senior campaign and needs to refocus on the task at hand.

Rd 2 - 036 - (Traded to Dallas)

Cleveland trades 3rd round pick (#67), 4th round pick (#103) and 6th round pick (#178) to Dallas for the Cowboy's 2nd round pick (#53) and 6th round pick (#195)

Rd 2 - 053 - From Cowboys Eric Wright CB, UNLV

BIOGRAPHY: All-Conference selection last year, posting 29/1/8, after missing two games with a knee injury. Began his college career at USC, moving into the starting lineup as a freshman.

POSITIVES: Explosive defensive back who flashes the skill to shut down opponents. Quick-footed in reverse, is fluid transitioning to run with opponents and has a burst of speed. Flashes on the scene showing a terrific move to the ball then getting his hand up.

NEGATIVES: Does not show a lot of consistency or productivity in his play. Loses focus and concentration. Likes to gamble and will get beaten.

ANALYSIS: Possessing good ball skills, speed and upside potential, Wright offers a lot of possibilities for the future. Should have stayed in college another season and will need time to develop his game.
