Avery, who struggled through the combine with a hamstring injury, wowed scouts today with his speed and quickness. Measuring 5111/188lbs, Avery posted a 37 inch vertical jump and 10-6 broad jump.

His forty times were fast, clocking between 4.32-to-4.35 seconds on the indoor turf at Houston. Avery ran a solid short shuttle of 3.90 seconds before turning in an amazing 3-cone run which was timed between 6.25-to-6.29 seconds.

Compare this time to the combine where the average receiver time in the 3-cone was 7.02 seconds with Harry Douglas of Louisville turning in the fastest clocking of 6.51 seconds.

Sources told us Avery looked exceptional in the position drills afterward catching passes from former Texas Tech signal caller B.J. Symons and taking direction from Jerry Rhome, who oversaw the workout. Avery did not drop a single pass during this morning.

That cone time is a little suspect. Houston athletes have a habit of putting up ridiculous numbers at their pro day.

I probably like Avery as much as I like Dexter Jackson, I'd take either of those guys later on.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Does the NFL send a certified surveyor to Pro Days?

Don't think so. I think team's send their people, and they will often run the drills.

From what I've heard, they even bring tape measures to measure that the drills are correctly spaced, especially the 40. It's not in their best interest to go report some crazy number to their team only to find out they were fooled, so I think they either make sure the drill is run right or disregard the numbers entirely and just go on what they saw.

You always have to be a little suspect of Pro Day numbers... No doubt about it. But still, we knew he was quick and fast, and this is just a little confirmation.

And Jerry Rhome (one of Troy's early mentors) is very solid and respected.

At least he weighed 188. That's really not that small as far as speed receivers go.

I can't say I've ever seen Dexter Jackson play.

5'11" 188 is solid, I saw a clip of his workout, and he has good muscle definition, so he's built well enough
