Washington Redskins 2008 Draft
• Pick No. 35: Washington Redskins select Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State
Pro analysis: Thomas was widely rated as the draft's top WR, and he should put to rest the Redskins' quest of players such as Chad Johnson and Anquan Boldin. Thomas could be immediately added to the return game, but more importantly, he's a guy Jason Campbell can hit a on a 10-yard slant that becomes a 70-yard score. Kudos to the Redskins for finally making the draft work in their favor.
• Pick No. 48: Washington Redskins select Fred Davis, TE, Southern California
Pro analysis: Davis seems an odd choice by Washington considering Chris Cooley's presence and long-term contract. And Davis isn't likely to bring more as a blocker than Cooley does. The Redskins pick again at 51 ... perhaps they'll get the help they need in the trenches there as Davis seems a bit of a luxury item.
• Pick No. 51: Washington Redskins select Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma
Pro analysis:Think Jim Zorn plans to wing it this year? This draft does not look Gibbs-esque, that's for sure. Washington now has two WRs (Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly) along with TE Fred Davis. That's a lot of targets with Santana Moss, Chris Cooley and Antwaan Randle El in the fold to begin with. Expect to see the same 4-WR sets Zorn's old team, the Seahawks, liked to employ and less Joe Gibbs smashball. But again, don't both Washington lines really need some depth?
