However, in the days that passed after Brunell signed, several QB's have become available. The market for QB's is now saturated, largely due to the early signings and the draft. Starting spots are scarce now, and high salaries are no longer easy to come by. Accepting that fact, you have to ask whether Washington would be better off with Brunell or with any of the QB's now (or soon to be) available plus the third round pick they gave up. That third rounder could have been used for any number of players, including some that might have helped shore up the run defense.

I think the theory is that it's better to be great on one side of the ball than average on both sides.

Joe Gibbs is an offensive coach...naturally he wants to win with offense, control the ball and clock, score, and win games with decent defense and hope the defense improves over the next couple of years.

See Minnesota (and Indy and KC to lesser extents) for the counterexample to that theory.

Gibbs had the luxury of guys like Dexter Manley and Charles Mann in his previous go round. It will be interesting to see if he can achieve the same success with a much less talented DL.

Default Good point Hostile

I'd trade Carter for Ramsey in a flash. If Carter proves me wrong I will be pleasantly surprised.

I'm thinking a .500 record is pretty fair for next season.
I'd say 8-9 wins is pretty fair. I think the year after that is the one where we'll make some real noise. I know the world expects Salary Cap Hell in the near future, but just as you've been hearing our broken Off-Season Champions record for awhile, we've been hearing stirring renditions of The Two-Year Window for about four years now. Time will tell. To quote The Dread Pirate Roberts: "And then we'll find out who is right, and who is dead."

Anyways, now I really do have to go and actually do some work. It's tough to tear myself away from this nice new board of yours though, so I'm sure I'll be seeing you all around the playground.
Hail to the Redskins!
