Ennis Haywood
Ennis Died over a year ago now (May 11th). I could remember that his cause of death wasn't said right away. Was it ever?
I can't remember why the young kid died at 23 years of age.
Has anyone heard or read anything on him?

If i remember correctly...im pretty sure there was some sort of drug involved. The organization came out late with this information after a report came out stating that drugs was the reason. I think the Cowboys didnt want the report out in the open due to the bad press his family and the team would recieve.

The report here says his medicine and alchol caused it
http://theboys.com/2003news/rv030801_0634.asp

The TarrantCounty medical examiner’s office released results of the autopsy on Cowboys’ running back Ennis Haywood, who died suddenly in May.
The report rules the death an accident, caused by a mixture of drugs and ethanol and was complicated by his asthma.
“Although the mixed ethanol and drug ingestion was the primary cause of death, a significant condition contributing to the death was bronchial asthma,” the office said in a statement issued Friday.
Haywood was taken to MedicalCenter in Arlington after he began vomiting in his sleep.
An initial autopsy did not reveal a cause of death, so tissue and toxicology tests were scheduled.
The medical examiner's office ruled the cause of death to be “mixed ethanol and drug ingestion (codeine and unidentified benzodiazepine).”
It also confirmed what his mother, Carol Haywood, said at the time -- that her son could have been a victim of asthma.
Benzodiazepine is sometimes used as a treatment for asthma. Ethanol is a form of alcohol that is used in beer and whiskey.

They are used to treat several things. I have trouble sleeping and they've been helping me sleep for years. It's scary to think that an accidental overdose after a night of drinking could lead to death.

Each on its own is fairly safe. Combining benzos (i.e. Ativan, Valium) and alcohol is a no-no because these two drugs can act synergistically (meaning the effect of the two together is larger than the effect of each individually). I routinely advise my patients not to mix alcohol and benzos/narcotics due to this issue.
If Haywood were asthmatic and suffering an asthmatic attack while on Benzo + Alchohol, he may not have had the strength to continue breathing through the attack.
Anyway you cut it, a terrible tragedy as young healthy people should not die from asthma or ODs on prescription meds.

Prescription drug for asthma and alcohol.
Oops, should have read further down.
Nothing illegal, just a tragic combination.

RIP Ennis
Truly tragic.
I hate that people will downplay it(not necisarilly any of you), because he played for us and a drug was involved illilgal or legal, who cares? its a minor issue....someone too young passed and that should be the focus IMO.
I'l miss him and he wont be forgotten.
Go Cowboys
