Skins want Courtney Brown
WASHINGTON -- Joe Gibbs wasted no time before starting a pursuit of former No. 1 overall draft pick Courtney Brown.
Within hours after Browns' release by the Cleveland Browns, the Washington Redskins coach flew to Cleveland with defensive line coach Greg Blache and had dinner with Brown and Brown's wife Monday night, an official within the league told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The official said Brown was expected to visit Redskins Park later this week.
Brown, the first overall choice in the 2000 draft, was cut by Cleveland because he would not renegotiate his contract. He would have been due a $2.5 million roster bonus Tuesday. Browns general manager Phil Savage said he still hoped the team could re-sign the oft-injured defensive end.
But Brown quickly drew interest from other teams, including the Redskins. Washington is in need of a pass-rushing end, having relied heavily on linebackers and cornerbacks for many of their sacks last season.
Brown was also a teammate at Penn State with Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington, the No. 2 overall pick in 2000. If Washington acquires Brown, the team will have the top three picks from that draft: Brown, Arrington and tackle Chris Samuels.
But Brown also represents a gamble because he hasn't played a full season since his rookie year. He has missed 33 games with injuries over the past four seasons, including the final 14 games last year after tearing a ligament in his foot.
Brown's other injuries have included a torn knee ligament, a high ankle sprain, knee cartilage damage and a ruptured right biceps tendon. Only as a rookie did he appear in all 16 games, and he has just 17 career sacks over five seasons.

If he was due a 2.5 million dollar roster bonus this year I guess that means Snyder will sign a contract with him for 12.5 million per year.
Snyder stays in the running for NFL GM of the year! LOL!

Too bad this guy could not stay healthy...I really thought he would be a good player in the pros. But man alive talk about being snake bit.
Although I guess it has not been as bad for him as it was for Yatil Green and the Dolphins WOW.

I saw all his games at Penn St and let me tell you he was a monster, It's to bad that injuries have ruined him or was it the Cleveland curse, i.e. Green and Warren?.

Don't forget Tim Couch.
And, heck, for that matter Kellen Winslow's career hasn't started out too promising either due to that injury.

And word out of NY is that the Giants are about to sign David Terrell.
The NFC East is really loading up on former busted Top 10 picks. We might have to get Koren Robinson on the jet.

We need to show interest in Brown, just so it raises the price on the deadskins.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this! And Joe actually FLEW to see him?! That's what they did with Brunell--so I'm guessing he scores like a $15-20 million bonus. Go skins!--always glad to see you making stupid moves like this.

No, cuz then we might actually get him...
Let the skins pay for him and all his future surgeries.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

They seem to have no faith in their players and if one person impresses them and due for FA they seem to chase that dream. GO Skins with that move.

Actually, we should encourage this signing, because that might make the Skins less interested in Merriman, Spears, James, etc.
