i like underwood too. he'd be a good second-day addition.

bullocks and the other names mentioned - they're all second day guys. the question is do we take a second day guy, throw him in with the guys already on the roster? or do we go after a name player the first day and try to nail it down? if pool is there with our second round pick, unless we have traded down and have our eye on someone else which i doubt, i think we have to take him. its not a reach - its a position of need and would have to be well-received by everyone as a good solid pick.

He's the 2nd rated prospect because of his size and what scouts thought he would test at. I've watched nearly every game he played and maybe its a coaching issue but he gets burned deep ALOT. It nearly is always in Cover 2 as well look at the games against Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and National Championship Game. With Zimmers Cover 2 could be a very bad situation. Bad Angles, Poor Instincts or Late Reaction he just does not get to the corners very well. He is very good in the middle of the field I don't dispute that.
I had an apartment and I had a neighbor, and whenever he would knock on my wall I knew he wanted me to turn my music down and that made me angry 'cause I like loud music... so when he knocked on the wall, I'd mess with his head. I'd say, "Go around! I cannot open the wall! I dunno if you have a doorknob on your side but over here there's nothin'. It's just flat."
Mitch Hedberg RIP

Agreed. Give me a guy that's say 6'1, 205 at least and I'd be happy... oh yeah he'd better be able to run faster than 4.5 and he'd better have damn good him turn too!

4.55-4.6... not fast enough in my book. 6'3, 217. That's probably too big. A couple inches shorter, a few pounds lighter and sub 4.5 speed. That's what I want.

Yep. Whoever the FS is, he has to be a good coverage guy first and foremost.

Miki you are over emphasisizing straight line speed only. Go look at the short shuttle times. See the differential analysis posted yesterady - Marlin Jackson is outstandingly quick and has tremendous change of direction. Instincts in a safety are just as critical. How a slow guy like Everson Walls played forever back there.....
Tebucky Jones is a 230 pound 4.3 guy who has struggled at times during career due to instinct, reaction time issues.

Now Norsey I also mentioned hip-turn in one of my posts. I agree it's not all straight-ahead speed. By the way I am on Jackson's bandwagon. I would use our 2nd on him and move him to FS.

Jackson is much better FS prospect than Browner. Browner from what I have read has some coverage issues.

sporting news has Dustin Fox Ohio State rated the best safety in press technique and man coverage. He's slotted in the third round and has decent speed at 4.50.

Amen. Here's a quote from draftdaddy.com:
No player got less respect come All-Star time than Oregon State star Mitch Meeuwsen. Spurned by the Senior Bowl and the East-West game, Meeuwsen has made the best of his time in Vegas by garnering a ton of praise from a slew of observers. He's an athlete with great size, terrific hitting ability and good leadership qualities. Production wise, few safeties in PAC-10 history have had a better career than Meeuwsen, a 2004 Thorpe award finalist. Lack of speed is the major knock against him, but that hasn't been a problem in Vegas.
Here's a recount of his pro day:
senior safety MITCH MEEUWSEN ran between 4.52 and 4.55 in the 40... some had him as fast as 4.49, which is an amazing improvement from the 4.70/4.75 range he was estimated at last spring... he is also the team's all-time leader with 20 career interceptions...
I've been impressed OSU's entire secondary for two years. This guy could be a steal for somebody.
