FSU Player breakdown-day 2 guys
As it relates to Dallas...
C. Stoval- Has good, not great hands, excellent size and is very physical. Decent blocker (only great FSU blocking WR I can remember is Boldin). But he just lacks great speed and I don't think he'll go up and get the ball with regularity unless he's matched up with a 5'9 guy. Not great after the catch. He'll go over the middle and get tough yards, but I'm not sold he's quick enough to get open in the NFL. He may prove me wrong, but he's also to slow, IMO, to contribute on special teams. I say Dallas passes.
Ray Willis- Good solid college player that may have a future in the NFL as a RT. Better run blocker than pass blocker, but is adequate protecting the QB. Good size and is strong. Decent, not great feet. The guy was a leader during offseason conditioning and at practice. Like I said he may blossom into a starter in the NFL in time. If he's around the 5th-6th round I'd snag him if I was BP and JJ. Good shot to make the roster and provide more options at RT if we're not gonna address it in FA.
Eric Moore- This is an interesting one if Dallas wants to play a 3-4. He could be worth a 5th round flyer. He actually was an all american LB coming out of high school and converted to DE. He only ran a 4.75 40 at the combine, so he'd have to work on his speed, but he's a potential hybrid for the 3-4 in the later rounds. If Dallas sticks with the 4-3 I think Moore is too small to be successful at DE in the NFL. You'd think with a 6'4 frame + he could put on weight (he's around 255), but it didn't happen like the coaches envisioned at FSU. He needs to be drafted as an athlete by a team in a 3-4 scheme.
C. Davis- Only around 6'2, 260 but plays bigger. Tough against the run and got better rushing the QB late his SR season. Was a JUCO and only had 2 yrs at FSU. Only runs in the 4.8 range. While I think he's got lots of room for improvement, yet the numbers don't look great. If he can put on 10-15 pounds and not lose quickness he may be worth a flyer, but he's not a hybrid. Worth a 6th-7th rounder for Dallas if we're playing 4-3, though he's projected to go higher. Does an excellent job of keeping containment.
BJ Ward- Ridiculous athlete that can't stay healthy. He's a rangy FS and we all know Dallas needs one. He's not afraid to hit, but maybe he should be......he just couldn't stay healthy at FSU. His shoulder was constantly giving him problems. This year it was his ankle. Lost his starting job to Pat Watkins last year before he got hurt (Watkins is the FS Dallas needs IMO, so there is no shame in this). Blocked a ton of kicks at FSU and is a good special teams player. Best vertical on the team, 40 inch+. Good speed, tall and rangy. But he's skinny and not durable. He's worth a 6th-7th round flyer, depending on how the draft is going and who's available. But I doubt BP takes him given the lack of durability.
D. Robinson- WR that's a converted CB. Nice kid, not an NFL player IMO.
J. Carter- May make some noise in time in the NFL. Good ST player, but he's a poor man Roy Williams. SS that likes to play near the line of scrimmage and is just average in coverage, though he got a lot better in coverage his SR year. Was a real liability his JR year in coverage. Tore his ACL early in his career, which slowed his development. He could be a real find for somone in the 4th or 5th, he ran like a 4.5 at the combine which suprised me. I just don't see the fit in Dallas.
