He's going to be behind the number three WR. He's not likely to be returning punts. What's his job on the team? You're not likely to even have him active on game day. KO plays STs.
Finally, the biggest problem is he will take up a roster spot.
They will look to trade him and get something before releasing him. It will be after Jun 1 at least. They will release him in time to get picked up by a team and have a chance to make the roster. That's just my take on the situation.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

I don't know if Hurd has that much value on the open market, compared to Crayton.

Crayton may have more value in the open market, but for our team Hurd is more valueable. I don't see how Crayton gets on the field. At least Hurd will contribute on special teams.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Crayton can hold out all he wants from voluntary OTA's, when his money really is on the line he'll show up.
If we need him we will keep him, if not well cut or trade him, even if it's for a 7th and move on. But I think his value on the team is more than it is off, so I say keep him.

Everything he said.

Sounds like Patrick Crayton is hearing Kevin Ogletree and Manuel Johnson footsteps.

Teams are going to sit down and wait for the team to cut him, and only a desperate team would trade for him, imo.
So, the Cowboys have to decide this. Do we really want all this "drama" lasting until August and throughout camp? Crayton is already using his voice to get out now, and he can keep on talking throughout camp. That will be a distraction to the team.

It comes down to this. You either believe in Kevin Ogletree, or you don't. If you cut Crayton now, Kevin Ogletree gets more work and more prepared.

So release Crayton, who's under contract for a couple more years. Then, Austin blows his knee out in training camp. So you're left with an expensive underachiever, a rookie, a second year player who has all of like 8 catches, and Sam "I dropped my last two important catches" Hurd.
If Crayton wants to pout, let him sit on the bench. The Cowboys are due to make an example of someone to send a message to the rest of the team anyways.

I like the idea of rotating receivers. I say keep Crayton to rotate with the top three.

The Cowboys could keep him as an insurance policy, but I'm just saying this:
Don't expect Patrick Crayton to not be a distraction. The media will love trying to keep something stirred up. It gives them ammunition to create distractions. Furthermore, Crayton's already basically stated that he's "just as good" as Roy Williams. He's already talked about Williams not getting "opportunites" to live up to expectations. Hmm. Wonder where he remembered that play. It came straight out of the Terrell Owens playbook, and it was part of the reason iOwens was booted. Crayton clearly wants out of Dallas.
We will see what the Cowboys do, but I think the damage has been done. Yes, the Cowboys could keep a player who doesn't want to be here as a fourth WR and not play him, but the consequences would probably be an unhappy, talking to the media "about it", Patrick Crayton.
That microphone is going to be in Patrick Crayton's face throughout training camp. Do you think he's just going to be quiet about his situation?
What if the top three WRs stay healthy, then you have an unhappy Patrick Crayton on your hands. Is a likely distraction worth it? Can't wait for the Dallas press to ask Roy Williams if he thinks Crayton is getting the shaft, after outplaying him last year.
Look, I'd cut Roy Williams or bench him and keep Crayton this year, but I'm not the GM.

Caryton wants out I hope he gets what he wants. I don't think this team needs to deal with a pouting player creating a disruption.
