Never heard of him, but there are two positions that without question I trust Parcells to draft. One of them is linebacker, and the other is runningback. If Tuna likes him .. I like him.

Strengths: He possesses adequate size and adequate-to-good straight-line speed. He has the lower body strength to pick up yards after contact when he runs with leverage. Shows good burst to the line of scrimmage and adequate speed in the open field. Has the ability to change directions quickly and he is capable of making the first defender miss. Rarely drops passes that he should catch and has a good feel as a dump-off receiver that stays with his quarterback in the passing game. He has experience returning kickoffs as well as punts.

Weaknesses: Can be impatient at times and he needs to do a better job of allowing his blocks to develop. Has adequate size and adequate-to-good speed, but not great in either area. Is a little bit too straight-line and doesn't show enough "wiggle" in space. Runs hard but seems to lack a bit of explosiveness. He is somewhat inconsistent and he will run too high at times. Doesn't run sharp routes and he could have problems generating separation working against upper-tier cover-linebackers. He sat out most of his sophomore season, there is some concern about his durability and he needs to stay healthy to progress.

Overall: Barber, whose father was also a standout running back for the Gophers and played with the Jets in the NFL, appeared in 11 games and started two as a freshman in 2001. He appeared in two games in 2002 before sustaining a hamstring injury and taking a medical redshirt year. Barber played in all 13 games of the 2003 season and he was named first team All-Big-10. As a senior in 2004, Barber rushed for 1,082 yards and 10 touchdowns on 194 carries  splitting carries with Laurence Maroney. Barber needs to work on his running style and improve his vision and patience as a runner. However, he has adequate size, above average top-end speed, and he's a tough runner. Some feel that Barber can emerge as a "sleeper" in this class and become an impact fulltime starter in the NFL. While we definitely think he can contribute as a change-of-pace back and possibly as a KOR specialist, it just seems to us that Barber lacks enough elite qualities, especially in terms of the explosiveness that it takes to become a premier NFL back. In our opinion, Barber is a good value late on Day 1, but not any higher.

As for the Clarett myth, Ed Werder just said he wasn't on Bill's 125 player final draft board.
