Default quality weekend

Obviously everyone likes to think they did well, and in all honesty we wont know till we see these guys play but we got good value picks everywhere...

The front 7 shouldnt be a weakness anymore...we have alot of talent and depth and can manuever back and forth between different fronts and blitz packages with ease...I would imagine CB's Terrance Newman and Henry are pretty happy today...the days of QB's getting 8-10 secodns to throw should be over

Loved day one...we got three potentially solid to dominant players with our three picks...if Ware turns into a Haley/McGinest or ( ) an LT type prospect, our draft could be one of the alltimers...Spears and Burnett can both be very good

today, was pretty sure we'd take a RB early...thought we'd take Fason or Sproles, but am very pleased with Barber...only saw him play a few times but as an SEC guy, seeing him totally take apart a good Alabama defense in the bowl game this yr was an eye opener...getting Canty could turn into a tremendous steal, even if he cant be 100% this yr...its amazing that we have front players with the kind of wing spand that Ellis, Spears, Ware and Canty have...some teams are lucky to have one guy like that, we have four...Rob Petetti could be a major surprise if he gets his weight down some...was a very productive, steady player at Pitt in Waly Harris' pro style offense...Pitt has a history of producing good OL's as well, and Parcells has a history of finding 2nd day talents at OL

would love to see us add a veteran FS, I saw somewhere on the net (either here or mabe the Ranch) that Corey Hall was rumored to be a possible addition this week...might not be a bad signing...RT might still be a need, but not drafting an OL any earlier than round 6 could be an indication that Rogers is further along in his recovery than we had known, or maybe they'll look at the position again before or during training camp...

great job by Parcells and Ireland...this weekend shoudl go a long way towards getting us back where we need to be...not trading for Howard ended up working great for us, as Howard would have been a 2-4 yr fix at best, whereas these kids today can be longterm players and Ware has alot more upside than Howard

We should have one of the best front 7's in football after this draft, and we should have depth on the four which is a first for us since the early 90's. But with all the DE/DT we now have do you see us trading LaRoi if we go to a 3-4??

Let's see....trade our best lineman......ummmmmmmm.......NO!

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

At least you didn't say getting Canty was an eye opener.

Pitt has had one offensive lineman drafted in the last decade (Bryan Anderson by the Bears in the 7th round).

Any history they had came before the Walt Harris coaching staff. Pettiti could be considered the best of a very, very sorry lot of Harris era OL.

Yes he is our best lineman but where exactly do you see him fitting into the 3-4 ? If we stay with the 4-3 then definately keep him, but if it's the 3-4 we will be playing with next year I don't see where he would play that was all I was saying...=)

Because our defense is now designed for versatility. We will still play plenty of 4 man lines, and glover will have a place in situational 3-4. The upside now is that we can rotate other players in and out - keeping him fresh.

He is still a force - to trade him would weaken what we have done this weekend.

On the money. The thing I liked about our 90's era defense was that when Russell Maryalnd came off the field for a blow I didn't panic seeing Jimmy Jones in there.

I like the idea of a defense that can mix things up and give players a rest. That includes Glover. I can see us throwing a lot of variations of alignments at teams every game. I still think Glover will be on the field more than off, but when he's off we won't have a gaping hole at a critical place.

You know - guys like Nors and the other pundits that claim NE is great because of the 3-4 miss the point.

NE's defense is great because THEY HAVE THE DEPTH AND PLAYERS TO PLAY HOWEVER THEY WANT. They aren't pidgeon-holed into playing a scheme because they lack certain players. They have players that can do anything. Heck - Richard Seymour and Wilfork's backup often dropped into coverage!

It doesn't matter what we run now. We can run something sophisticated. Our 4-3 last year wasn't bad because the 4-3 is soft or passive. It was bad because it was elementary. We couldn't attack gap schemes, we couldn't stunt the DL - we could only sit back and wait for the ball. People blame Zimmer for passiveness [zimmy wuss's occupy and engage crap], but heck, HE HAD NO ALTERNATIVE.

This draft reverses this - we have talented depth that can do a variety of things. Line up at end? No prob bob. Play LBer, ok coach. Tackle?

"I think I broke his f******* neck!"

I will end my rant here.

Good analysis David.

I thought it was a great draft as well. I have hopes for Petitti. He could really come around eventually and be a horse of a RT for us.

Glover will play his traditional DT spot when we play 4-3 and in the 3-4 he'll play NT, like Parcells said.

He should be able to come in on sure passing downs and get a good passrush from the nose.

He'll get a lot more rest than he has in the past, and that's a good thing.
