Canty update

Quote:
The Cowboys welcomed 20 rookies back on Monday, including seven of the team's eight draft picks. Only fourth-round pick Chris Canty, a defensive end from Virginia, did not return. Canty will be undergoing a second eye surgery this week in North Carolina to further repair the detached retina in his left eye.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

He had the surgery in October and it takes 6 to 12 months to recover from knee reconstruction.

Seeing that his rehab was stunted it probably leans towards the 12 months.

Training camp is in August which would put him on the 10th month so it is very possible.

People seem concerned about the eye but its the knee that is the real issue. The dude tore all 3 ligaments and that take some time to recover from. The eye is a problem but not nearly the magnitude of the knee.

Of course its a wait and see situation but the PUP is what one should probably plan on.

Whatever -
I meant he should be fine long term. Pup is still my guess on his availability.

Agreed. Last thing we need is for him to rush back and blow out his other knee trying to compensate for lack of strength in his injured knee. The whole eye problem is just prolonging the process of getting his knee 100%.

If he can't go for camp they should IR him, IMO.

PUP is fine and dandy, but we are juggling a lot of young players already, moving vets into different roles and that takes time to gel. If you put Canty on PUP, just about the time the defense starts to gel you'd be adding a new piece and that could disrupt the cohesion.
