I would liked to have seen Herschel Walker be in the situation Emmitt was in from say 92 - 96.
THE FEATURED BACK, .. with a great QB, a great WR core, a great TE, and a huge OL.
Running clock because we had a lead in the 2nd half.
With all of those things being equal, I would take Walker.
Size of a FB, body of a LB, with sprinters speed !
I know stats and history don't say so, but Walker would be my pick.

Who cares about troy?? What about Sherman Williams. That boy had the longest run in cowboys history.....from the law, only to get tackled at the one yard line. Oh well, maybe they will have a real "longest yard" and he can be the RB for that team.
"Can we get Drew Bledsoe back out here just for a week, so you guys can fall back in love with Tony? Let's sign Drew Bledsoe back for a week. Because sometimes when you have a pretty girl for so long, you forget how pretty she is. But when you put an ugly girl next to her, 'Oh, no, I'm really doing well.' And maybe we need to bring Drew back, so we can back to 'Oh, no, we're really doing well.'"

4. Perkins
5. The log jam of Hill, Thomas, Newhouse, Reeves, Garrison, Springs, and Pearson.

Finally, someone mentions Preston Pearson and Robert Newhouse.
Good job. I agree with your list, but I would toss in my sentimental favorite at the end .. Doug Dennison.

You guys are missing the boat completely. Walker is clearly #1 on this list. He is responsible for 3 super bowl rings and our dominance in the 90's. Without him who knows what would have happened.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

#1 - Emmitt Smith
#2 - Tony Dorsett
#3 - Herchel Walker
#4 - Don Perkins (even though I never had the privilege to see him play but I've read he as was pretty good during his time)
#5 - Calvin Hill (same as Perkins)

We have the luxury of only naming a few because our stable has been pretty darn good... if not the best in history...
It is easy to discount the backs you have never seen... do some research before knocking Perkins... he isn't in the most exclusive club in NFL history (the Cowboys ROH) for nothing... he was a TERRIFFIC back...
Even our second tier backs were pretty darn good... Walt Garrison may be one of the toughest football players in history... Preston Pearson redefined the 3rd down specialist (we got him from Pittsburgh for $100)... Newhouse, although really a true fullback was a good runner in his own right... Doug Dennison was good... as was Dan Reeves... I also always liked Scott Laidlaw...
