But it takes a pro to know a pro, and I hope someday from the broadcast booth Darren elaborates on why he said Tuna was his best coach ever. I doubt the comment was about what Bill gave to him, but what he saw Bill bringing to the younger players. I suspect Darren understood the extent of the malaise the franchise had sunk into when Tuna came in, and he saw firsthand how Bill set about ridding the team of certain influences, and instilling a winner attitude, despite the record.
[View Full Quote]I know those two bonded, and of all the Dallas vets, it was Woody Bill seemed to rely most on in 03. Darren got on board 100 per whereas Larry sulked and guys like Galloway went all passive-aggressive. Cripe, when Bill came in he gave Woody the "assignment" of monitoring the cleanliness of the lockeroom. Some vets would have been highly insulted. Woody understood. He seemed to relish the opportunity to turn the funk around.
Last year Bill mentioned Woody several times, about him coming into his office and expressing how badly he wanted to play. Pointed him out to the others as a true competitor.
What a travesty that back injury was - Darren had a few more years in him, and more than decent ones. Freakish miserable luck.
Bill nicknamed Woody "the Parrot"...it seemed like a cute mockery of Woody coaching from the sidelines last year, but obviously Tuna was charmed by it. I'm happy Darren has gone into broadcasting, he'll be as easy on the eye as on the ears, but also sad he has not decided to coach instead. I've had a recurring daydream of Darren standing by Bill's side as an assistant coach - becoming a branch of the Parcells Tree.
But if it's the booth he wants, at least we know he'll be calling them straight there too.

he did mention that BP told the players ' If you're sensitive you won't be around here for long.' Which , to me , explains the whole AB situation. You've got to have thick skin to hang around a guy like BP.. Woody likes that.
