Old 50-50 is a former 1000 yard receiver. I haven't ever thought he'd be cut, but recently there has been meetings between him and Gibbs and they haven't gone well. He wants out and the Skins haven't shown ANY resolve in the past to force any player's hand.
But here is the deal. He asked for the right to seek a trade. He went to other teams, supposedly there were a few offers, but then Gardner refused to negotiate a long term deal. I'm not saying that they couldn't reach and agreement, I'm saying they wouldn't even talk to teams about a long term deal. For some reason, he thinks he's good enough to have a team give up a draft pick for him and then let him walk at the end of one year.
Gardner isn't a bad player. Really, he has great size and good speed and his athletic ability is off the charts. But the problem is that he's wildly inconsistent.
Gardner isn't like Freddy Mitchell or Terrell Owens. I think the biggest problem he has is an over-inflated ego. That isn't anything new. We'll keep 5 WRs on the active roster most likely. Key, Glenn, Morgan, and Crayton are locks. Copper is still a question mark on whether he will ever be anything to this team. I like have a mix of the young and the old. Gardner isn't old (28 I think) and has had more success than Morgan.
I wouldn't be opposed to signing him to a one or two year deal. Nothing long term for him though. Let him prove himself under a real task master.
