Are we that desperate for a FS
Every FA Safety and CB that comes available, alot of u guys want....
The latest RW McQuarters, come on guys, it's hard enuff for a great CB like Rod Woodson or Aneias Williams to make the switch, how in the world do u expect a subpar CB to make it. It sounds nice but that's a no-go....
I do think we will grab a Chavious or Shulters type FS, but not just anyone....
I agree we need a FS and I'm sure we will get one, to me a good FS is the last piece of the puzzle for our D and for some reason we do not get one of these FS, we will move Henry their for the time being, which would be a nice fit.......
And if ur only excuse not to put Henry at FS is the singing Bonus we gave him, u need a better argument, because I'm quite sure Ed Reeds SB will be alot more than 10 mil.....for a FS

I'd say we are that desperate for a FS. Quite frankly the idea of starting Lynn Scott or Keith Davis on opening day scares the hell out of me.

So moving a CB to FS is a bad idea, but a SS (chavous) to FS is a good one?
And Ed Reed is a playmaker, best defensive player in the game. Can you say that about Anthony Henry? He isn't even the best at his position on the team.

Cowboys have never stated that Henry would be moved to safety and unless we pick up a FS then the guys currently on the roster will compete for the job. Henry may never be a pro bowler at CB but he is much better than this team has had in a long time.

No, I don't believe we are that desperate. And, as I've said repeatedly this offseason, if you think most teams in the NFL has two "name" starting safeties, think again. Go through the list of nobody starters in the NFL at free safety. Madieu Williams. Ronnie Heard. Todd Johnson. Chris Young. Glenn Earl. Quintin Williams. These are guys penciled in as first stringers heading into next year. There is a reason why they are the lowest paid position on defense, and a reason its a position players end up at in the twilight of their careers trying desperately to hang onto a roster spot for a few more seasons.
Either get a significant upgrade (Schulters), or go with Davis. The position isn't going to make or break the team.

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.

Or Lynn Scott.

I agree. If we get a pass rush we might be able to survive.
But there is no reason to sign someone at this point just to say we did, provided players like Schulters and Chavous are not in the cards.

I don't disagree with you one bit. Just saying the Q's comparson of Henry's bonus to Ed Reeds potential bonus is irrelevant. They are two very different players with different impacts on the game.

Chavous is a free safety. He was playing out of position last year at strong safety.

I agree...people think the FS position is critical to whether a team has a good defense or not...some people have gone so far overboard with it its like they think the team is doomed to a losing record if we dont get another FS
I think they'll take a long hard look at Keith Davis this weekend and go from there...if they think he can be at least average at the position they'll probably (and rightfully) pass on any veterans

is Ed Reed really the best defensive player in the league? I dont think he is by a longshot...he is a great playmaker on THAT team, because he's surrounded by a bunch of other bigtime players and plays for a defense which can consistently rush the passer...put him on most teams defenses and he'd probably be a good player but hardly one everyone talks about
FS isnt critical to a team, or a defenses success

I agree that is like comparing apples to oranges, two completely different position and different responsibilities. I do know that this non-sense about Henry to safety is just that total BS, Dallas brought Henry to man the RCB spot and that is exactly where he is going to be lining up. There has not even been a hint by the Cowboys of Henry changing positions.

Brian Russell was the starting FS in Minn the last two years, Chavous the SS.
