I agree that Thomas will be the #3 RB and will play special situations; mostly short yardage situation I'd say. But when JJ needs a breather for the 1st and 2nd downs it will be Barber. Thomas will play RB but as a stiuational guy.

We are changing what we want of our backers and putting Burnett behind Singleton to me is a big sign they want him gone. Note that we put James with Coakley and even tho James basically stunk we still cut Coakley the next off-season 1st thing.

I really don't think James had anything to do with Coakley's release per se. I think Coakley being released was due to 2 things:
1) He is smallish and not a fit for the 3-4 that Parcells wanted to go to.
2) He and Parcells did not get along; Coakley said some things publicly lst year that indicated that.

Some of the young guys are entering year 3, so they have some experience and as much or more than Singleton in the 3-4.
I can see why you feel this way but I would not at all be suprised if Singleton gets cut. I think he is probably the worst fit of the returning starters and makes 2 mil. If we do start Burnett, Dat, James, Ware: we are bigger, faster, stronger. Shanle, Thornton, Fowler, O'Neill are all guys BP likes and it wouldn't surpise me for 3 of those gusy to make the squad with Ogbogu making 8 backers. I think we go heavy on rush guys(DE/OLB hybrids) if we go heavy anywhere.

I can see Singleton getting released with his lack of size. I think BZ is dead on with having Shanle ahead of James on his chart. Shanle played really well at the end of last year in place of Singleton and James stunk up the joint when he was in there. Shanle has the size to handle the job and it will surprise me if he doesn't take the starting job.
